Sellars makes Wolves departure

Wolves’ technical director Scott Sellars has left the club after eight years of service at Molineux and Compton Park.

An outstanding coach and developer of young players, Sellars leaves a legacy at Wolves, with recent academy graduates Hugo Bueno, Joe Hodge and Chem Campbell representing just some of the recruitment and development undertaken during his tenure.

Sellars first joined Wolves in the summer of 2014 and was tasked with leading the under-21s as part of an academy restructure, with former old gold defender Rob Edwards heading the under-18s at the same time.

While managing the under-21s, the former winger played an instrumental role in the development of academy products, including Morgan Gibbs-White, Kortney Hause and Connor Ronan, who have all gone on to play in the Premier League.

After four years with the under-21s, where he helped bridge the gap between development and senior football, Sellars was appointed to head of development care, before being named academy manager in March 2019, as the then under-23s were winning promotion to the top tier of development football.

The following year, Sellars stepped into a general manager role, looking after the technical side of the game, including recruitment, analysis and the academy, before in January 2021 he took up a fresh role of technical director.

Since then, Sellars has supported both chairman Jeff Shi and head coaches Nuno Espirito Santo and Bruno Lage, while continuing to line manage a number of football departments including academy, women’s, medical, analysis and recruitment.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said: “Scott has been a big influence at Wolves in my time at the club, and you can see from his elevation through different departments and roles how highly we think of him.

“A football person through and through, with exceptional experience in the game as a player and a coach, Scott brought that with him to work every day and used it to improve the next generation of young footballers.

“On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to say thank you to Scott, and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
