Bruno Lage and his staff whittled down the nominations to five and supporters now have one week to decide who takes home the 2021/22 award for the best strike.
Raul Jimenez is option number one, with the first of his two nominations, for his stunning individual goal against Southampton back in September, which was his first since returning from a serious head injury and was celebrated in front of a joyous away end.
Option number two also belongs to the Mexican, after he finished a fine team move by whipping home Daniel Podence’s pass from the edge of the box to earn three impressive points against West Ham United at Molineux.
Nelson Semedo is next up on the nominations, again following a brilliant passage of play against Sheffield United in the Emirates FA Cup. John Ruddy started the move off in goal and a fine Podence through ball found Rayan Ait-Nouri, who slipped across for his fellow wing-back to convert into the top corner.
Later in January, Joao Moutinho’s brilliant goal against Brentford brought him into contention. The team move came down the right this time, it was quick and slick, and a one-two with Semedo created only half a chance, which Moutinho brilliantly took with an outside of the foot finish around the defender and into the corner.
The final nomination was a piece of genius from Ruben Neves. He collected Chiquinho’s knock down, jinxed to shoot, but nudged past his man, before spotting Ben Foster off his line and producing a sublime chip over the goalkeeper and into the net to put the seal on a comprehensive victory over Watford.
Supporters can make their decision below and the winner will be announced on social media next week.
