Jota to challenge Konsa on FIFA 2020

Diogo Jota is swapping his boots for his PS4 controller this weekend, with bragging rights on the line in the FIFA 20 battle of the West Midlands against Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa.

Wolves were scheduled to visit Villa Park in the Premier League at 12.30pm on Saturday before the COVID-19 pandemic, so the fixture will now take place on FIFA 20 at the same time, as Jota and Konsa go head to head, in support of Acorns Children’s Hospice

For the first time the Wolves Esports team will be represented by a first-team player and supporters can give Jota their full backing in the one-off game by tuning in to Twitch, here.

In previous weeks, when Wolves were due to play West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth, the fixtures still took place ahead on FIFA 20, where Wolves Esports’ Ebinho was narrowly defeated by the Hammers, but beat the Cherries in a best of three battle.

Now Jota’s arrival on the scene ups the intensity, with the Portuguese international fresh from being crowned Wolves’ top FIFA 20 player, having defeated under-23 defender Ed Francis in the final.

Ahead of the fixture, Jota said: “Wolves against Aston Villa is a fixture I love playing in, with the passion from our fans, and now hopefully this will give them something to get excited about whilst the real games are on hold.

“We played against Konsa in November at Molineux and it was a good battle that day, but now we’ve switched to FIFA 20 and I’ll still be giving everything to deliver a result for our fans.”

The fixture at Villa Park was due to be Acorns’ dedicated takeover day, so in light of the postponement, the two clubs have worked closely with the charity to ensure money can still be raised for the fantastic cause.

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides a network of specialist palliative nursing care and support for babies, children and young people aged 0-18 who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and associated complex needs.

There are two ways to donate:

The money raised will go towards Acorns and its work caring for some of the most vulnerable families caught up in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

There are around 600 families supported by the charity across the West Midlands who are now self-isolating and alone as they care for children with life limiting and life threatening conditions.

Acorns has mobilised staff and volunteers to deliver care packages of essentials, toiletries, treats and games for children, as well as emotional support.
