Wolves 2 (McLeod 30, 40) Burnley 0
Wolves under-21s secured three points in their opening match of 2026/27 as they beat Burnley 2-0 in the Premier League Cup at Telford.
Conor McLeod’s double in the first half decided the match as Rich Walker’s side got off to the perfect start in the new campaign.
Wolves started well against the Clarets as Jerome Abbey drove forward before firing an effort over the bar.
Though it was Burnley who came closest to opening the scoring with the first major chance as Kian McMahon-Brown crashed a header against the bar, moments before Oliver Pimlott’s cross dropped just inches past Alfie Brooks’ far post.
The opening goal came from McLeod on half hour as Abbey took down a defensive header from Brooks’ goal-kick, took strides forward before finding McLeod on the right, who cut inside and saw his effort deflected in.
Ten minutes later, McLeod doubled his tally in style as his corner kick caught Burnley keeper Lewis Forshaw off guard, dropping directly in at his near post.
Wolves had a chance to further extend their lead before the break as Minkyu Ji was brought down in the area, but Dani Angel saw his spot-kick saved by the feet of Forshaw.
Half-Time: Wolves 2-0 Burnley
The Old Gold started the second period with the control they ended the first as Angel was unlucky not to find the net from Luke Rawlings’ perfectly weighted pass into the 18-yard box.
McLeod, eager for a hat-trick, could have taken the match ball home had he kept his effort from the edge of the box just a few inches lower.
Burnley were creeping back into the game with Brooks forced into two good saves before full-time, but Wolves soaked up the pressure and saw out their lead to secure a first three points of the 2026/27 campaign.
