Wolves 4 (Townsend 29’, 37’; Carty 58’; Dongde He 90’) Middlesbrough 0

Report by Katy Wordley-Smith

A brace from Taylor Townsend followed by goals from Conor Carty and Dongde He helped secure Wolves Under-18s a 4-0 win over Middlesbrough in the PLU18 North at Compton Park on Saturday.

Townsend opened the scoring as the game approached the half-hour mark, as he was on hand to tap home a rebound beyond Sol Brynn in the Middlesbrough goal.

It was 2-0 minutes later. The lively Townsend was fouled inside the Middlesbrough penalty area and he picked himself up to score his and Wolves’ second of the morning.

Wolves continued to dominate after the break as Townsend turned provider as he lifted the ball through to Conor Carty who made no mistake to extend the host’s lead.

In the closing stages, substitute Dongde He found himself in space to score his first goal for Wolves since signing from Notts County in the summer, a goal which sealed a comfortable win for Darren Ryan’s side.

Moment of the match:

Taylor Perry’s audacious attempt from 30 yards out which rattled against the right post before bouncing away to safety for the visitors.

Quotes:

Manger Darren Ryan said: “We wanted a positive performance and the lads gave us that. They were committed, they were brave, they played more like the under 23s and the first team.

“For the majority of the game I thought we dominated. It was a thoroughly good performance in and out of possession.”
