Billy Harrison

Inducted in 2010

Signed from Crewe Alexandra in 1907, having also played for a number of local sides in the Cheshire area, Harrison’s first full season with Wolves brought immediate reward.

He was a member of the team, then in the Second Division, who caused a major upset by beating firm pre-match favourites Newcastle United 3–1 in the FA Cup final at Crystal Palace in 1908. The teams included only four players whose names began with H and each scored. Hunt and Hedley put Wolves two up before Howie replied and then Harrison sealed victory with a solo effort. To complete a great day his wife gave birth to triplets on the morning of the match. As a winger, the diminutive Harrison was always a fans’ favourite, with his clever ball control which ensured he could beat much bigger opponents. He played for the club until he was 33. During the First World War he was a guest player with Stoke City. After leaving Molineux he had two seasons with Manchester United and later spells at Port Vale and Wrexham, not retiring until he was 38.
