Vitor Pereira says it’s vital that Wolves maintain their positivity from the back end of last season and the last ten days in Portugal has helped achieve that.
The Old Gold have been in the Algarve preparing for the new campaign and after Saturday’s training ground game with Burnley, it was home time, ahead of a return to Compton Park next week.
The head coach has been pleased with what he’s seen from his group out in Portugal, with an intensity running throughout training, and with a strong end to 2024/25 still fresh in his mind, Pereira’s been happy with the spirit of the group.
On the week in Portugal
“We are working, trying to pass the message to the players. We are working with a lot of young players, and it’s important that they understand what we ask them to do. Good training, intensity, of course a bit tired, but I'm happy with the work.”
On the message he’s giving
“To be themselves, to play and to work with confidence. Of course, the heat is a little bit higher than they are used to experiencing, but it is a very good chance to increase the level, to understand what we want in the first-team, and to be to be prepared.
“The pressing and the intensity of the exercise [is there]. I ask them to play with one touch and this is difficult. Sometimes they lose some confidence, but in the end, we have a conversation. I used to say you can do mistakes because it's time to do mistakes, it's time to correct them, it's time to improve.”

On maintaining positivity
“For me, it’s very important to keep the good energy. We need to come here and to feel happy, to enjoy training, to feel that we are increasing, to feel that we are building an identity, building the connection with the supporters, giving our best inside the pitch, the true spirit of a team. In the end, we cannot control results, but we can control what we do on the pitch – every day is to improve.”
On looking ahead to a first full season
“The Premier League is where I want to be. The Premier League was my target for a long, long time. Now is the moment to enjoy it and the moment to compete and to prove myself, that I'm prepared to face the best coaches in Premier League.”
