Biography

Wolves bolstered their midfield options with the arrival of Tommy Doyle from Manchester City on a season-long loan in the summer of 2023.

The England under-21 international's move contains an option to become permanent in 2024 and joined Wolves on the back of a successful season with Sheffield United, who he helped to promotion to the Premier League.

Boasting a range of passing and impressive delivery from set pieces, Doyle joined City at the age of eight and spent more than a decade rising through the club’s ranks, before making his first-team debut ten years down the line, starting against Southampton in Carabao Cup back in 2019.

Displaying leadership qualities from a young age, Doyle regularly captained City’s academy teams, while also progressing through each England youth level, representing as many as six Three Lions groups up the under-21s, who he helped to Euro 2023 glory in the summer, coming off the bench in the final against Spain.

Loan spells away aided the Mancunian’s development, as he split his 2021/22 season between a spell in Germany with Hamburger SV, where he scored his first senior goal, and Cardiff City in the Championship.

It was during the 2022/23 season where Doyle really came to the fore, however. The midfielder added 38 appearances to his tally, scoring four goals and providing seven assists, and producing all-round midfield performances, as the Blades won automatic promotion and reached the FA Cup semi-finals.

During that cup run, his stunning late winner against Blackburn Rovers sent the Blades to Wembley and earned the midfielder the club’s Goal of the Season award.

Now ready for the Premier League, Doyle adds a new dimension to Gary O’Neil’s midfield options for the remainder of the 2023/23 season, at the minimum.
