McNamara | 'The girls aren’t finished yet'

Dan McNamara has given credit to his players following a final day victory at Liverpool Feds.

Wolves Women secured a fourth-place finish in the Northern Premier Division and manager McNamara insists that his players aren’t finished just yet, as the Birmingham Challenge Cup final awaits this time next week.

On winning on the final day

“Credit to the girls. It’s a tough place to come and they don’t lose many here or have done either in tier three or their four when they got promoted in that season.

“It was a tough day. The climate isn’t like it normally is. The astro turf is tough, especially in this heat – it’s hot, slow and tight as well.

“They play here really well so credit to the girls. I thought the first 15 minutes we were a little bit slow, but from 15 minutes onwards we had a little bit of a change and I thought the girls were fantastic from thereon.

“There was a massive impact from the subs as well so, overall, really positive going into next week.

On finishing fourth

“I’m really pleased with where that sits us within the table. I think that’s three points behind Forest, a few behind Burnley and that shows we’re not far away.

“We just need a little bit more of a nudge in the right direction and now Newcastle have passed through, we can potentially be competing at that top end of the table again.”

On looking ahead

“It’s a short career for managers but certainly for players you’ve got to embrace every time you start a new season.

“The girls aren’t finished yet. They want to work hard in the 10 days and make sure we make another memory.

“This season’s been full of highs and lows. We knew it was going to be difficult and I can remember the conversations back the offices in August.

“We knew it would be tough, we knew Newcastle were going to be the ones to beat and we were probably a little bit behind the other couple.

“The girls have stuck together, worked relentlessly, represented the club fantastically well over the last eight to nine months.

“They’re a really special group and hopefully we can add the three or four over the summer that will excel us to the next level and give us the opportunity to put the club where a lot of people want to see it – the women’s Championship.”
