Women's report | Liverpool Feds 1-2 Wolves

Liverpool Feds 1 (Cole 50) Wolves 2 (George 33, Bramford 79)

Sophie Bramford’s winner 11 minutes from time ensured Wolves Women closed their 2023/24 league season with all three points at Liverpool Feds.

Despite Paige Cole’s free-kick cancelling out Tammi George’s opener, substitute Bramford stepped up to secure victory for Dan McNamara’s side and a fourth-place finish in the Northern Premier Division.

The win was also the Old Gold’s eighth from their last nine league outings, who finished just three points behind Nottingham Forest in third and four off Burnley in second.

In a competitive opening period, both sides went in search of an opening goal with George coming closest as she headed goalwards from a corner.

The Wolves number seven was then in the thick of the action again, this time striking a powerful effort that was well-saved by the gloves of Danielle Hill.

However, George wasn’t going to be denied for a third time as she opened the scoring shortly after the half-hour mark. Anna Morphet’s pinpoint ball over the top found the run of George who took one touch before lifting it over the top of the onrushing Hill with a delicate dink to break the deadlock.

Layla Banaras almost made it two as the half-time whistle approached but, after looking to do similar to George, her lobbed effort didn’t quite have the legs as Hill recovered to claim on the line.

Half-time | Liverpool Feds 0-1 Wolves

Feds levelled the scoreline just five minutes into the second half, and in some style. Cole stepped up to strike a free-kick from distance and the movement was enough to beat Bec Thomas as the ball nestled into the far corner.

There was little to separate the two sides following the equaliser, with chances few and far between. McNamara introduced Liv Fergusson and Bramford in hope of sparking the game back into life with the result in the balance.

And the substitution well and truly paid off on 79 minutes, as Bramford drove a low shot across goal which found its way in at the far post.

It was a timely goal for the visitors as, with only 11 minutes left on the clock, they were able to see the game out and hold onto maximum points on the final day.
