Guedes’ journey to Wolves

A new chapter in the career of Goncalo Guedes is underway, as he joined Wolves on a five-year deal from Valencia, adding to an already exciting journey wolves.co.uk now looks back on.

Having started out at Benfica under Bruno Lage’s watchful eye, the forward also had a spell with Paris Saint-Germain, before catching the eye during a five-year stint at Valencia.

The 25-year-old also arrives with an impressive pedigree at international level and looks to add to the journey below by inputting exciting Wolves chapters to his tale.

25th March 2013 | Portugal’s exciting prospect Guedes in UEFA European Under-17 Championship action against Slovenia at St George’s Park in Burton – an elite round match which helped form part of the youngster’s development.

27th July 2016 | Settling into the first-team, Guedes celebrates scoring against Torino in the Eusebio Cup, following an impressive breakthrough season in senior football.

23rd November 2016 | The sight of Guedes celebrating goals would quickly become familiar. The Portuguese wheels away after netting against Besiktas in the Champions League – a match Nelson Semedo also bagged in.

26th July 2017 | Impressive form for Benfica earned Guedes his move to PSG and he’s pictured here in action against Juventus in the International Champions Cup.

26th November 2017 | It’s at Valencia where Guedes has excelled in recent years and in November 2017 he was battling with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in La Liga.

14th April 2018 | Duels against the best in the world continued to not phase Guedes, who showed no mercy to Andres Iniesta of Barcelona in 2018, with World Cup decisions looming for the Portugal hierarchy.

15th June 2018 | Guedes headed to Russia for the World Cup and started alongside Joao Moutinho in a group stage classic, where Portugal and Spain played out a 3-3 draw.

20th June 2018 | The forward’s World Cup campaign continued, as Portugal defeated Morocco, which helped them edge closer to the knockout stages.

30th June 2018 | Guedes celebrating with teammate Pepe on the night Portugal’s World Cup dreams were ended by Uruguay.

9th June 2019 | The following summer, Guedes was firing home the winner in the first ever Nations League final, as Portugal defeated Netherlands 1-0, and he was congratulated by Cristiano Ronaldo.

14th September 2019 | Back in La Liga action, Guedes competes at the Nou Camp with former Benfica and future Wolves teammate Nelson Semedo.

4th July 2020 | Now an integral part of the Valencia squad, Guedes celebrates scoring in La Liga against Granada.

16th May 2021 | The familiar picture of Guedes celebrating at the Estadio Mestalla in a La Liga clash with SD Eibar.

11th June 2021 | Back on the major international tournament scene, as Guedes was named in Portugal’s Euro 2020 squad, but they were knocked out in the round of 16.

2nd March 2022 | During his most productive year at Valencia, Guedes was on target in a Copa del Rey clash with Athletic Club Bilbao – one of 13 times he bagged last season.

19th March 2022 | Guedes celebrating his final goal for Valencia against Elche back in March.

9th June 2022 | Guedes’ most recent goal to date came for his country, as Portugal defeated Czech Republic in the Nations League with Ruben Neves in the midfield.
