Scott Sellars on his side's Premier League Cup draw with Everton.
Wolves Under-23 manager Scott Sellars was impressed with his side’s display as they drew 1-1 with Everton on Monday evening.
Sellars’ side took the lead at AFC Telford’s Bucks Head, when Will Randall beat three defenders and curled the ball into the right-hand corner.
The young Wolves came under pressure in the second half and the equaliser came as Everton were awarded a penalty late in the game.
Sellars said that although his side conceded late in the game, he was still very happy with the performance.
“I thought for the first ten minutes, we started a bit edgy but I thought after that for the rest of the first half we were really good,” he says.
“We got a great goal from Will (Randall) and then had an even better chance with Dan Armstrong at the far post - if we take that and it’s 2-0, maybe it’s a different game.
“I thought in the second half, Everton came at us and really put us under a lot of pressure and they were good.
“There were times where we produced some quality where we might have caught them on the counter attack.
“I thought it was a really good game, really competitive, I thought it was a real cup tie and I really enjoyed it.
“The lads are developing massively and getting loads out of all the games and hopefully long may it continue.”
The starting eleven featured Morgan Gibbs-White and Connor Ronan, who have both played for the first team this season.
Sellars said he is delighted with their attitude towards playing for the under-23s.
“I thought Connor and Morgan were both excellent - they’re both training with the first team most days because they're both very good players,” he continues.
“The great thing about them is that when they come back with us, they don't see it as a negative, they see it as a chance to play because they both love playing football.
“I’m always delighted with their attitude and their quality and it’s been the same in every game as well with a lot of the players.
“I thought the two centre-backs were excellent - we played some really good stuff in the first half and with a bit more luck, we might have got some more goals.
“Connor Johnson and Ryan Leak are two players that we think very highly of. Connor has played most of the season and done really well, 'Leaky’s' come back in the last few weeks, with Regan’s (Upton) injury and Aaron Hayden going back out on loan.
“We’re really pleased with Ryan, we think he's got a lot of potential, we think there are areas that he needs to work on in terms of physicality but there’s plenty of time for that.
“Overall, I was really pleased with them.”
