Doyle | 'With the way we are, we’re disappointed'

Tommy Doyle says Wolves’ mentality throughout this season meant they couldn’t be wholly satisfied with a point at Nottingham Forest, with a focus on continuing to progress.

Matheus Cunha started and finished the scoring at the City Ground, with his first goals since returning from injury, and they rewarded a battling performance from those behind him. Doyle was once again utilised from the start in the midfield and, while the 22-year-old was more satisfied with the first half performance than second, he believes the performance gave promise, as well as areas to improve.

On the mood in the camp

“With the way we are, we’re disappointed [with a draw]. We wanted to go there and win, that was our number one focus, but a point isn’t the worst for us, because of where we are in the league. We’ve worked hard to get to the position we are, but as we are as a team and a club, we want to keep pushing, keep progressing. The frustration is there that we’ve not got three points, but there’s still stuff we need to work on.”

On a competitive draw at Forest

“The first half was good. We controlled a lot of the game to be fair, played quite well, played some good stuff. We were unfortunate not to score a few more goals and obviously second half was a little bit different. We were a bit more under threat and had to deal with that.

“A point, in the end, isn’t the worst for us. Second half was difficult so there’s stuff that we can work on and stuff we can be better at, so we’ll take that into the next game.”

On the elements which need improving

“I think second half we could have been a bit better. How we controlled the game in the first half, we needed to take that into the second half. Even if they change, we have to recognise what they’ve changed and adapt. We’re all still learning, and we’ll all keep going and try and improve as much as we can, which we’ve done a lot this season.”

On enjoying a run of games

“Everyone knows we’ve struggled with players a lot. We’ve had some big injuries, so it’s about helping the team. I’ve been deep in the middle, I’ve been high in the middle, it doesn’t matter to me, as long as I’m out there playing and enjoying it. It’s obviously good to start and I’ve just got to keep pushing on and hopefully we can get some more wins.”

On dealing with the injuries

“Of course it’s difficult, but there’s nothing we can do about it. A lot of stuff has gone against us this season, but we’ve got to keep battling, keep fighting and keep enjoying it, and letting our football do the talking.”
