Sims | ‘It’s a great foundation to build on’

Wolves Women midfielder Amy Sims has highlighted the team spirit following a well-earned point against Burnley on Sunday.

The summer signing produced an impressive display in the centre of the park as the Old Gold played out a goalless draw against another of the sides who will be looking to claim the one automatic promotion spot into WSL2 this season, and believes the game gave Wolves the opportunity to show they are going to be challenging for the title once again this season.

On the performance against Burnley

“We are proud more than anything, I think we created the better chances.

“Burnley didn’t really cut us open but it was a really competitive game and a chance for us to show what we can do in this league.”

On the importance of the clean sheet

“We knew we’d have to ride the waves, that’s football and you’re going to have spells where you don’t have the ball for twenty minutes.

“It’s just making sure the ball doesn’t go in the back of the net, to keep that clean sheet it something we pride ourselves on.

“It’s a great foundation to build on.”

On the team spirit within the camp

“It’s amazing, the girls that have been here for a while really show what it means to play for Wolves.

“You know when you go to press the ball that everyone’s got your back - that’s on and off the pitch and everyone’s really together.”

On her previous experiences in the FAWNL

“Things are different like the style of play but I think it suits me really well.

“Macca has always been honest with what he wants from a Wolves player.

“The fans always want to see you work hard and I’ll always give everything.”

On facing Rugby Borough this weekend

“It will be a completely different game, they’re a great team and have real quality.

“Hopefully we can have more of the ball than we did today and show what quality we have on the ball.”
