Ahead of getting the latest FAWNL Northern Premier Division campaign underway this afternoon, Wolves Women’s 2025/26 squad numbers have been confirmed.
Following Emma Cross’ retirement over the summer, new signing Georgia Marshall has taken the number five shirt while fellow former Burnley star Anna Grey will wear number seven after Tammi George’s departure.
Two new additions from Nottingham Forest, Lyndsey Harkin and Amy Sims, have been assigned number two and number 18 respectively.
Incoming goalkeeper Alex Brooks will take on the number one shirt, the returning Chloe Williams is number 24 and Louanne Worsey will wear number 36.
Youth prospect Sareet Binning will be part of the first-team squad later this year after her 16th birthday – while also spending time on dual registration with Leicester City as part of their PGA side – and will be assigned number 44.
The remaining players who were also part of Dan McNamara’s squad last season will wear the same numbers as they did during the 2024/25 campaign.
Among those retained for 2025/26 include Lily Simkin, Merrick Will, Jade Cross, Bec Thomas, Martha McPhail, Racheal Quigley, Amelia Hiscox and Skye Owen. Ania Denham will spend the season on loan at Sporting Khalsa.
McNamara said: “Over the summer, we’ve tried to build a strong squad of 22 players. The players we’ve been able to bring in, re-sign and keep hold of this summer has created a very strong group.
“Over the last few years, I’ve always said that depth plays a key part in these in these leagues, and I think at times we’ve probably lacked it, but we’ve now got some outstanding players within this group, and certainly all them are going to want to be on the pitch, so that’ll only raise the levels of training and raise the levels of performance on Sundays to make it really competitive.
“Nobody knows who’s going to be in that starting 11 now. It all comes down to how the girls are training, how they’ve been looking like in the week and they performing at the weekend, so that all makes it a really competitive environment.
“The players know they’re going to have to really play for their shirt this year, which is what we’ve been trying to create for a while, and with the enhanced support from the club, it’s allowed us to do that, so we’re really looking forward to getting the season underway.”
There have also been five departures from the first-team squad this summer. Cross and Destiney Toussaint have both retired from football after incredible careers in the women’s game and George brought an end to her long association with the Old Gold to sign for WSL2 side Sheffield United.
They were joined by goalkeeper Maddie Elbro and defender Josie Smith in also departing the club ahead of the new season.
“We want to thank all of the players who are leaving the club this summer for their efforts over the last few years in what’s been a hugely successful period within Wolves Women’s history," McNamara added.
“For every player that comes in here and is part of the squad, I hope they can all take some good memories and experiences away from the club, and they should be proud of everything that they’ve achieved as a group.
“We wish the best for all of the girls on the next phases of their journeys, whatever that might look like, and I hope they all have some fond memories of their time at Wolves.”
