Harkin | 'I’ve heard only good things about Wolves'

New Wolves Women defender Lyndsey Harkin is aiming to use her experiences of leading Nottingham Forest to WSL2 with the Old Gold this season.

Harkin made the move across the midlands to join Wolves after bringing a 10-years second spell at the City Ground to an end this week, and having spent many seasons as a title rival, she cannot wait to get going as the newest member of Dan McNamara’s pack.

On signing for Wolves

“I’m really excited. It’s such a good project, and so many good players in this team that I’m really looking forward to playing for the club.

“They’ve been challenging for so long at the top end of the table and, the way they play, I really like the aggressive press and they score lots of goals. It’s exciting to play in that format.

“Also, speaking to Macca, he is someone that you want to play for because he’s so passionate and it means so much to him. I’ve heard only good things about Wolves and the setup here as well, so it’s all really exciting.”

On leaving her childhood club

“It was really tough to leave Forest. I’ve been there for the majority of my life, so it’s been a different step that I’ve taken but coming into Wolves and feeling so welcome and excited to play here, it makes it that little bit easier.

“I’ll always look back with fondness on my Forest career and I have some very good memories from my time there, but it’s exciting to be here now too.”

On familiar faces in the Wolves squad

“I know Char [Greengrass], Becks [Anderson]and Simsy, and they’ve all given me really good reports of how positive it is here and how much they’re enjoying it, so that definitely helps.

“But everyone has been so welcoming. They’ve been so kind, everyone has been telling me how things work here and stuff like that, and they’ve all been really nice to me, so it’s felt great and it’s been a really good first few days.”

On battles with the Old Gold in the past

“Wolves have always been such a good team, and a really good to play against in terms of the aggression. It’s always been a challenge, but that’s something I’ve always enjoyed despite being hard to play against.

“They’ve always been really tough games, and ones that the crowd would always enjoy as well. There’s been a few dramas in all of the Wolves and Forest games, with exciting things happening, and it was always the biggest challenge of the season to play against Wolves, so it’s going to be a good time to play for them.

“But that was another reason why I wanted to come here because they’re such a good team. To now be on the opposite side, it will feel nice to be a part of it, rather than against it.”

On adding leadership to the group

“I’d like to think I’m quite vocal. I try to organise as much as I can and help players out. As a defender, I like to defend, but I also like to get forward with my passing as well. Hopefully a hard-working defender is what the fans will see and hopefully I’ll be consistent and put on a good show for them.

“There’s already so much experience in this group, which is so pleasing to see and there are so many good players as well, with the experience that they’ve got from this league and some having played higher up the leagues too.

“From a leadership point of view, I’ll just be myself and try and help as many people as I can, be vocal on the pitch and in training to help the team.”

On aims for 2025/26

“I definitely think our aims will link up this season. The aspirations are to get promoted and it’s been the aspiration for this club for a long time, and we’ve always pushing at the right end of the table.

“That’s going to be no different this year, as I think we’ve got a great group so hopefully we can do well this year.”
