Following her breakthrough first season in senior women’s football, Abbi Jenner is proud to have signed as a contracted Wolves Women player going into the 2025/26 season.
The 20-year-old centre-back spent the last campaign on loan in gold and black from WSL2 outfit Birmingham City, but Jenner has been able to make her move permanent this summer after putting pen-to-paper on a part-time contract with the club.
Now looking to build on what she achieved with Wolves during the last 12 months, Jenner is hoping the team can go one step further this time around.
On becoming a contracted player
“It feels amazing. It’s something I always looked at doing when I joined last year, and obviously we did so well last year, and I really enjoyed it. Having talked to Macca, it is something I always wanted to do, so it’s an amazing feeling.
“The loan definitely helped me to have a taste of what Wolves was like, so to now commit my future, it’s something I’m really proud and I’m happy that I’ve done.”
On turning her loan spell permanent
“For me, I wanted to go somewhere on loan where I could develop as a player and try and grow myself on and off the pitch, and I think that’s what I did at Wolves, so when my contract did end at Birmingham, there were no questions about where I wanted to stay.
“I already knew the girls, I knew the players and knew the environment that I’m committing to, so it made the decision way easier. Obviously, enjoying it so much last year, and having just fallen short of promotion, it was something I definitely wanted to continue and hopefully we can go one step further next season.”
On a breakthrough year in gold and black
“For me, it was hard coming in originally, because I’m a young player, playing my first season of women’s football. I thought it would be easier, but I really enjoyed it, and I think the girls helped me so much.
“I built good connections [in defence] with Morph, KJ and I’ve made lots of good friends, and for me, that made it so much easier to just come in, play and be myself, so I think I settled in really well eventually.
“It took me a few weeks, but I think once we played our first few league games, and I settled in and built those connections and relationships with the different players, I found it really easy just to play my own game and bring what I have to this team. By the end of the season, I think I was bringing my best game and that’s all I can do.”
On expectations from McNamara
“Just the same as last year. He wants me to carry on as I finished last season, because I think I had a very positive season, I played most games, and he just wants me to be playing with the same tenacity and keep playing the same way, with confidence, communication and everything.
“He also said to bring some more goals as well!”
On an exciting time ahead for Wolves Women
“I think it’s massive and something that everyone should want to be a part of. It’s exciting with the contracts and the commitment of the staff and the players, and it’s something that you want to be involved in from the outside, so it’s exciting.
“Last season we proved we’d never give up, because, despite always being the underdogs, we only came out in second by three points, so hopefully we can push on to WSL2 and get promotion this season.
“It’s definitely something we want to carry on and we can definitely push next season with the addition of new players and hopefully keep the same core of the girls. If we do that, it’s definitely something that is achievable, and we all want to look to do.”
