Greengrass | ‘The girls worked so hard’

Charlotte Greengrass was delighted after her two goals helped Wolves Women to a hard-fought 2-0 win over Derby County in the FAWNL on Sunday.

The forward was pleased with her teammates, praising the defenders who worked hard to preserve the Old Gold’s clean sheet at the Don Amott Arena. She spoke about the performance, her brace and the clean sheet after the victory.

On the performance

“Fair play to Derby. They're a really organised, battling team, and Sam [Griffiths] has got them really well organised.

“We saw that today, and it was difficult to break them down in moments. We probably couldn't play the way that we would like to play on an astro like this, but I think we ground it out, and the girls worked so hard.

“There were so many girls that just grafted today, and it wasn't a pretty win, but three points is what matters.”

On her two goals

“I think the last ball I played through to Simsy [Amy Sims], I thought I was basically celebrating her scoring, so it's good that I stayed switched on for the return pass.

“But Simsy is quality in those areas, and I think just having that connection with her on and off the pitch has really helped.

“The second one, Morph [Anna Morphet], every ball she puts in is absolute quality, so I just need to be there in the right areas to get on the end of it.

“I’m just happy to contribute today because I think that second goal really settled us down into the last few minutes of the game.

On keeping a clean sheet

“I think that's what's kept us going this season. It's our job as forwards to get the ball in the net, but I think the back line has been absolutely unreal this season and they've worked so hard in training.

“We come up against them in training and they are really pushing us on. So I think that you see that week in week out, whoever's playing in those positions, they're battling and they make it so difficult and so, so ugly for the other team to try and get the ball in behind themselves.

“So yeah, they were brilliant and credit to them.”

On Liverpool Feds up next

“I think it'll be another good battle. They always come out at us.

“I think it'll be good to be back at Telford, back on our home pitch, so really pleased for that and we're looking forward to it.”
