McNamara | 'We’re not even a fraction of where we want to be'

Dan McNamara was proud of his teams performance on Sunday when Wolves held on to beat their 2-1 lead against Rugby Borough to get through to the next round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

However, the boss insists this is just the start for his side and is adamant his players must continue to thrive and push one another if they wish to meet their desired targets this season.

On the performance

“You know what you’re going to get from Rugby Borough. I thought we were good in moments again, could have been better in other moments.

“The disappointing thing is just before they score, we should make it three and the game should be done but we miss the opportunity and then it’s backs against the wall for the next five minutes.

“If I compare that to the Stoke game, I thought we dealt with that well, really maturely.

“Overall, we knew it was going to be a tough FA Cup tie, we couldn’t have asked for a harder one in the first round, but we managed to get through it and look forward to the draw.”

On what it would mean to win a cup this season

“I produced a bit of a montage, and the media guys have created it for me, and they sat and watched it for six minutes and it was all the memories we’ve made over the seven years.

“Jade Cross scoring at Watford started it off and then obviously the Manchester United game here finished it off.”

On the standout performs

“I’ve challenged them and said ‘come on, this year this is not our focus but let’s see what it means to make memories as a group, and I thought we’d seen that in moments today.

“I thought (Amy) Sims was tremendous. Georgia Marshall, I thought she was outstanding.

“Apendi was a tough ask for Abbi Jenner in the first half, but we forget these players are 19 years old and AJ has had a wonderful day here full of development and come off the positive side. “

On the challenges Sporting Khalsa can bring

“Top of the table doesn’t interest me at the minute. What interests me is putting another three points on the board.

“We’ve got two really tough games, the first one’s going to be here under the lights and then we’ve got to travel to Halifax, and I know Rob will have them absolutely ready to compete.

“I think that’s 12 games unbeaten, I don’t think we’d ever have imagined we’d start like that but we’re not even a fraction of where we want to be.

“We’ve got to keep working hard, keep the consistency, keep pushing each other and stay together and hopefully we can achieve what we want to achieve.”
