Anna Morphet was pleased to see Wolves Women maintain their high standards throughout the 90 minutes at Stourbridge.
Despite being 5-0 up at half-time, the Old Gold scored a further three in the second half at the War Memorial Ground and were boosted by a triple change at the break. Captain Morphet, who netted twice, has spoken on ensuring their performance levels for the duration of the game, the impact of the half-time changes and being able to score from the penalty spot three days after missing from 12 yards at Huddersfield.
On winning 8-0
“The best thing we can say about the game is we didn’t let up. It was a fantastic first half and everyone who played the second half, the subs who came on, I thought they were amazing and really kept the tempo of the game up.
“It’s really good to get lots of different scorers on the scoresheet and a clean sheet.”
On maintaining momentum in the second half
“It’s been something we’ve been trying to pick up on throughout the season, building momentum and keeping the standards into the second half.
“That was our main focus at half-time and I know the girls were already switched on and ready to go. It’s really pleasing from that point of view.”
On scoring early goals
“It really settled us down. We could enjoy the game, we could move the ball. Amber (Hughes) puts away a half chance and it just gives us that moment, that breath to relax and start playing our game, which I thought we did.”
On the impact of the subs
“It really maintained the tempo of the half and for Liv (Fergusson) to come on and get two goals really shows the quality we’ve got off the bench.
“I’m really pleased for her and all the other subs that were brilliant when they came on.”
On her goals and penalty
“I was very lucky to get one straight after in the next game. I just thought, get it on target and keep your head – I’m really happy from that point of view.
“There were so many different goal scorers and it’s great to see so many people getting their name on the scoresheet.”
On moving forward
“These are the type of games where, midweek and a three-game week, it’s difficult. We had to keep probing and finishing as strong as we can.
“It really builds us going into a solid end of the season. We want to finish as high as possible and do ourselves proud.”
