Hannah Fryer has said the team had to ‘dig deep’ for all three points at Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
The Wolves Women defender, who has started the last three matches, believes the key to victory was getting the job done by any means on a difficult surface, in a game they knew that the football they like to play had to take a backseat for the sake of the three points.
On a tough assignment
“I think it was a really tough game. We knew coming into here it was going to be tough. I think the league position they’re in doesn’t really tell how they’re doing in the season.
“They’ve got some good players so we knew it was going to be tough and scrappy. Of course, on the pitch we knew it was going to be not what we are used to.
“We had to dig in, so we’re happy with the three points today.”
On getting a run in the team
“If you look at our squad, we’ve got quality all throughout so we know every week we’ve got to train hard, work hard and when you do get your chance, you’ve got to take it. I’m happy to be playing.”
On digging deep
“We knew it was going to be tough so we wanted to come here, get the points and get the job done.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be pretty football. It was about digging deep, so I think we did that today and we’re happy to go away with three points.”
On the key to keeping a clean sheet
“I think it’s just having confidence in each other. As a back three and as a back four, with Bec (Thomas) behind us, we’ve got a good partnership in trusting one another, keeping cool and dealing with it.”
On recovering for a three-game week
“Nathan (Maxfield) and the guys do a really good job at managing our minutes, making sure we’re all recovered and ready to go for the next lot of games.
“I’m sure we’ll be doing some recovery ready to go again for Wednesday.”
