Liv Fergusson has admitted Wolves Women ‘never lost belief’ despite going a goal down away to Hull City in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Four goals in the second half turned the tie on its head for Dan McNamara’s side who booked a fourth round trip to Reading in the process, and Fergusson says the team always knew they had it in them to overcome the one-goal deficit.
On Hull proving stern opposition
“They made it really difficult for us, really physical, hard to beat, and on the counter attack quite dangerous.
“We knew they’d be a threat from set pieces and obviously got the goal from the corner, but we know what we’re capable of and we never lost belief.
“We always knew that we could still win the game, but they did make it tough for us, especially in the first half.”
On sticking together
“He (Dan McNamara) believed that we were going to win the game. There was absolutely no doubt about it. We needed to stick together and keep doing what we were doing.
“We still played well in the first half, but he was proud of us and told us to go out in the second half and show what we could do.”
On having to adapt
“The pitch didn’t suit our game, but you’ve got to be able to adapt, and we did. It didn’t suit the way we like to play, but we still played some good football at times, but when we needed to we made good decisions and played a bit longer than we would like to probably.”
On facing Reading in the next round
“I think we’re all going to be looking forward to it. That’s what this cup’s all about, playing teams from the league below, and now playing teams from the league above us, so really looking forward to it.”
