Women's report | Wolves 5-0 Fylde

Wolves Women 5 (George 9, Toussaint 11, 25, 37, Merrick 40) AFC Fylde Women 0

Wolves Women got back to winning ways in the FAWNL as they thrashed AFC Fylde Women 5-0 with a first-half Destiney Toussaint hat-trick at the New Bucks Head.

Following a fast start to the game, the hosts found themselves 1-0 up within the opening 10 minutes as Toussaint crossed in a dangerous delivery and Tammi George was on hand to beat goalkeeper Grace Pilling to the ball and bundle her header over the line.

Moments later, Dan McNamara’s side then doubled their lead after great work down the left wing by Beth Roberts, as her cross met Toussaint who was on hand to calmly slot home past the helpless Pilling.

Wolves then almost made it three within the opening quarter of an hour, after an error in defence saw Beth Merrick look to punish, as her effort was cleared off the line.

The visitors looked to make amends, as Sasha Rowe fired her effort onto the post from the edge of the box following a Wolves clearance from a corner.

Fylde’s pressure grew and Iszy Binks had a 35-yard pile driver, denied by an unbelievable save by Bec Thomas, who tipped her effort onto the bar.

Toussaint then doubled her tally and scored the hosts third as she was one-on-one with Pilling, with the forward beating her to the ball, which then trickled into the back of the net.

Soon after, Toussaint secured a first half hat-trick as she scored Wolves’ fourth as her brilliantly curled effort from the edge of the box was too much for Pilling.

Wolves ran riot as a few minutes later, Merrick found herself on the scoresheet, as she curled her effort into the far corner past Pilling from just inside the area, which made it five before the interval.

Fylde looked to claw one back just before half-time, as Ginny Lackey’s shot was aimed straight at Thomas who managed to gather the ball into her arms.

Half-time | Wolves 5-0 Fylde

The visitors started the second half the stronger of the two sides and looked to put some pressure on Wolves with a few dangerous crosses.

The second half had a slower start than the first and hat-trick hero Toussaint was replaced by Jade Cross on the hour mark.

Fylde’s Lily Murphy then had an effort sky over the bar from the right-hand side, as Jack Garside’s team desperately looked for a way back into the match.

Substitute Demi Devereaux had Fylde’s best chance of the half as her effort fizzed wide of the far post with a quarter of an hour to go.

Moments later, McNamara’s side had a penalty claim as Cross was brought down in the box, however referee Ethan Nundy waved play on.

A great team performance was topped off with a nice moment, as Hollie Bailey made her senior debut, as she replaced captain Helen Dermody in the final few minutes of the match.
