Anna Morphet believes it was a real positive to see so many different scorers on the scoresheet on Sunday.
Wolves Women secured their spot in the FAWNL Cup as they emphatically defeated Doncaster Rovers Belles 11-1 at Compton Park. A game of two halves saw the hosts go into the interval leading by a goal to nil. However, seven different goal scorers, including a hat-trick from Amber Hughes, rounded off what was a brilliant second half display from Dan McNamara’s side. Morphet captained the side and, as ever, reliably scored from the penalty spot as the Old Gold made it two wins from two at the start of the season.
On scoring 10 goals in the second half
“It was a game of two halves. We had to be patient in the first half, it was a little bit frustrating at times.
“Donny Belles setup really well, they were really tight in defence. In the second half I think our qualities showed and our fitness and patience eventually paid off.”
On the teams relentlessness
“It’s something that we focus on, you have got to be relentless, keep dominating. To get so many different names on the scoresheet, as well as the frontline, it’s what we want.”
On getting on the scoresheet
“Of course personally, it’s always nice to score a penalty.
“It’s always the girls up top that are putting themselves on the line to get fouled. I’ve got a job to do from the spot, but the finishing especially in the second half has been class from all the girls.”
On playing at Compton
“The turn out today and the noise and support is always massively appreciated.
“The supporters are grand. They follow us wherever we go, at the end when we get to say our thanks, as a team we appreciate that too.”
On Burnley away next in the league
“It’s been a really tough start and I think how tough this league is going to be, a good start is really important.
“We will prepare properly for Burnley, we know it’s going to be a really tough game from that point of view, but we will approach it like any other game.
“We know it is a long season, but we know these games are really important that we start well.”
