Wolves Women’s latest edition Ellie Wilson believes her experience higher up, coupled with the club’s ambition, can create the perfect match.
The defender, who comes from a family of Wolves supporters, has signed for Dan McNamara’s side ahead of the upcoming campaign and has highlighted the work going on both on and off the pitch as key attractions in her putting pen to paper.
On signing for Wolves
“It’s been unreal to be here at Wolves and I’ve felt at home from minute one. It means everything to me to be a Wolves player because all of my family are massive Wolves fans through and through, so on a personal note, I feel very proud to be part of the club.
“I wanted to be a part of the club at some point and now I felt that this was the right time. Everything is heading in the right direction, it’s a very professional set-up, and I would like to be a part of helping Wolves climb the ladder of women’s football.
“Everybody has been really welcoming and from the second that I met Macca and had a chat about coming here, I felt like it was a good fit, so it’s been a really positive start. The main thing that appealed to me was that Wolves is a massive club and the direction of women’s football at the minute, especially at Wolves, is on the up massively, so from a footballing perspective, it feels like a great fit as well.”

On bringing her experience
“I’ve got lots of experience in the higher tiers of the game and I’ve obviously been in and around the Championship for several years now, I’ve also had two promotions out of it, so I now want to help Wolves get into the division.
“I’m an attacking minded full-back who likes to get forward – but I’m not afraid of a tackle either, so hopefully I can add something to the backline and build us forward so the girls can go and put some goals in the net.”
On her aims
“Promotion is always the first thing that would come out of anybody’s mouth when you ask them what their aims are for the season, but in all seriousness, we want to get into the Championship and I’d love to be part of Wolves’ progression within that.
“On a personal note, I want to enjoy my game as I struggled with a couple of injuries at Sheffield United, but I feel like I’m in a good place now and I want to kick on, start afresh and be part of another journey.”
On the growth of the women’s game
“Every year the quality down the divisions just seems to be building. With the likes of other clubs in this division going full-time, and when you hear it come out, it does sound surprising. But the game is growing and Wolves have definitely expressed that they want to be part of that, which is really important and was a big factor in me coming here as well.
“The game is growing and there’s a lot of opportunities within that, and I saw this opportunity as a very big one and one I didn’t want to miss out on.”
