Edwards To Lead Under 23s

Wolves are delighted announce Rob Edwards has been appointed as the new Wolves Under 23 Head Coach.

The appointment of the former Wolves player and coach will see Scott Sellars step away from taking the team on a daily basis and he will now become the Head of Academy Player Development.

Edwards began his coaching career with Wolves Under 18s before progressing to become First Team Coach in 2016.

From there, he left to take up the Head Coach role at National League North side AFC Telford where he developed a number of Wolves players who signed for Telford on loan.

Academy manager Gareth Prosser said, “Rob Edwards has come through a recruitment process and we are delighted to welcome him back to the Club, as our Under 23 lead coach.

“He will be assisted by Sean Parrish and the rest of the performance team and will be tasked with leading the Under 23s on a daily basis.’’

“Rob has the development of players' at the heart of everything he does. I am sure he will fit back into the club very quickly to continue the development of our young players. There is no doubt the standard of football at this club has risen in the last 12 months and we all have the responsibility to ensure our players hit these new standards.

Sellars will take overall responsibility for the coaching programme, working closely with the full time coaching staff to ensure the players receive the best possible development.

He will continue the evolution of the coaching philosophy, which has commenced over the last few months as well as support the Coach Development programme.

Prosser continued, “Scott has played a huge part in developing the football philosophy at the academy, often going over and above his role as Under 23’s coach to support the younger teams, where he has worked with coaches and players across the age groups.

“As the Academy continues to grow, we need someone to take a sole role in driving this coaching philosophy further.

"With Scott’s experience as a player, and now as a coach working at high-level academies, he is the best person for the job.”

Wolves Sporting Director, Kevin Thelwell said, “Rob is someone we’ve known for a while, following his time as a player and more recently as a coach for the academy and with the first team.

“He will be a perfect fit and he is someone who will help to continue help our young players develop.

“Scott has done an excellent job leading the Under 23 group over the last few years and his new position will allow him to flourish even further.

“I am looking forward to seeing how our Under 23s progress in the forthcoming season.”
