Bastien Meupiyou has joined Primeira Liga club FC Alverca.
The French youth international will move to Alverca to gain senior experience, although there is a clause in the defender’s contract for Wolves to re-sign him in the future.
Meupiyou becomes the second Wolves player to join the newly-promoted Portuguese top flight club this summer after Chiquinho made the switch earlier in July.
The centre-back signed for Wolves last summer from Ligue 1 outfit Nantes, and after the start of his Old Gold career was delayed due to the 19-year-old recovering from a knee injury, Meupiyou was included in Vitor Pereira’s first four Premier League squads, as well as being on the bench for the FA Cup third round visit to Bristol City.
The 2024/25 season saw Meupiyou develop under Pereira and the senior players as part of the first-team squad, while he enjoyed game time with James Collins’ under-21 side.
Meupiyou featured nine times in Premier League 2 during the second half of the season as he helped Wolves into the play-offs, which ended at the last 16 stage to Chelsea.
As he now heads to Portugal to continue his development, everyone at Wolves would like to wish Bastien the best of luck.
