Temple Ojinnaka is already focusing on Friday’s game against Arsenal following Monday’s opening day Premier League 2 defeat at Nottingham Forest.
Ojinnaka, who captained James Collins’ side on the night, says he always knew the game against Forest was going to be tough, particularly with the amount of young players in the team. However, the defender believes that performances will only get better as the games go on, and insists that the older players will help guide the scholars through difficult times.
On a tough game at Forest
“We knew it was going to be tough. They’re a team that comes out aggressive, likes to get after the opposing team, and we always knew it was going to be tough.
“Obviously, it’s disappointing not to get the three points but it’s the first game of the season and we’ve still got time to improve.
“We're going to go back to the training ground and keep working on it. We’ve got a big game on Friday, so that's what we're focusing on now.”
On wanting to create more chances
“I think we defended really well. We always knew that the game was going to be tough. It was going be tough to go through them.
“It’s disappointing not to create more from set pieces and open play, but we’re looking forward to the game on Friday and hopefully we can create more in that game.”
On the young team
“We’ve got a lot of young players as well. We got two or three 16-year-olds playing in the team.
“It’s quite a new team, quite a young team so I think us senior boys are trying to get the team together.
“We want to be together on the pitch, off the pitch and build relationships so they translate onto the pitch, and get more of an understanding for when we come out to games like this. We’ll stick together and do our best to get three points.”
On leading the team out
“I think it was good and I enjoyed the pressure. Because it's a young team, I'm one of the older boys and I know some of the boys look up to me, especially in tough times like today.
“I felt proud to wear the armband. It was good. Hopefully there are many more games where I can wear the armband and lead the boys out.”
