Lembikisa and Roberts receive senior Jamaica call-ups

Wolves duo Dexter Lembikisa and Tyler Roberts have received call-ups to the senior Jamaican national team for the first time.

The Reggae Boyz have an international friendly double-header against Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday 11thMarch and Tuesday 14th March, games where the pair could make their senior bows.

Both Lembikisa and Roberts were selected in last summer’s Jamaica under-20 squad that competed in the CONCACAF U20 Championship in Honduras, during which the latter featured in all five matches as Jamaica reached the quarter-finals.

Lembikisa has enjoyed a breakthrough season for the old gold, making his professional debut for the club in November’s Carabao Cup victory over Leeds United.

The 19-year-old was then given his first outing in the Premier League just three days later, coming on as a second half substitute against Arsenal. Lembikisa’s first senior start for Wolves came at Anfield where he lasted for 68 minutes of the dramatic Emirates FA Cup tie, before starting once again in the replay at Molineux.

Meanwhile, Roberts has been a key component of James Collins’ under-21s side throughout this season, scoring two Premier League 2 goals.

Despite missing a period of action through injury, Roberts has recently returned to the squad and scored off the bench in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, said: “This is one we’re extremely proud of and pleased for both players.

“They’ve both been in the programme for a considerable amount of time and this is a fantastic opportunity that reflects their hard work as individuals and the hard work of staff who have been working with them for a number of years to get to this point.

“We want them to play with bravery and take the opportunity, ensuring they don’t waste any time while they’re out there.”
