Campbell | On team spirit and Fulham wonder strike

Chem Campbell has praised the recent form of Wolves under-21s, who collected another point in PL2 following a 1-1 draw with Fulham on Monday evening.

For the second game running, James Collins’ side fell behind but rallied once again to ensure they didn’t leave empty handed. A moment of brilliance from Campbell nine minutes from time saw the forward pick up the ball 25 yards out before hitting a thunderous effort that bounced back off the underside of the crossbar and up into the roof of the net.

It was no less than Wolves deserved, with Campbell openly admitting that he has an eye for the spectacular and confidently backs himself from that kind of range.

On the team performance

“I think we were the better team and the boys played fantastic from start to finish.

“We were unlucky to concede but got the goal in the end, and I thought we deserved more from the game.

“Their goalkeeper kept them in it really. I thought Lee’s (Harkin) header (in the first half) was in, but it was a great save and you’ve got to give credit where it’s due.

“We all showed great character and it’s something we’ve been working on for a while. If we do concede, we don’t take our foot off the gas – we keep trying for the next goal and thankfully we got it.”

On defensive duties and the response since Chelsea

“A few years ago, I wouldn’t enjoy doing that but as you get older, you start to understand the game more. It’s your job to do these things and I just get on with it.

“To respond from the Chelsea game and to keep going shows we’ve got good character and team spirit.”

On his sensational strike

“I tried one in the first half, and I think it went miles over the bar. I know I’m capable of it, I’ve done it before.

“I picked up the ball and thought ‘why not shoot’ – thankfully it went in. It feels good and I’ve just got to keep trying it. If the opportunity is there I’ve got to try and take it.

“After the goal I went through again and I thought I should’ve scored a much easier chance.

“I think I’ve got to do both sides of the game – scored the odd wonder goal but also take the other chances.”

On hosting Everton this Friday

“It’s going to be a tough test again but as you saw there, we showed great spirit and character. I think we can definitely get points against Everton.”
