Hodge | 'These are games you want to be playing in'

Midfielder Joe Hodge added a first Molineux goal to his tally when he scored the crucial goal to get Wolves under-23s back into their game against Stoke City, and on their way to securing a vital point in the play-off hunt.

The former Manchester City man, who joined the club in the summer, played 90 minutes for the first time in 15 months as he continues his recovery from an injury which he picked up before the move, and marked his first Molineux start with his first goal at the stadium.

On fighting from behind to secure second spot

“Obviously, we didn’t want to be 2-0 down, we didn’t deserve for us to be 2-0 down, but that was the way it went. But the lads showed a lot of fight, a lot of courage, and we never stopped trying, so it felt like a win in the end because of where we were. It was a good point after being two down.

“We started bright, we had good possession in their half and had some good chances in the first 25/30 minutes. Second-half, we didn’t start well after being poor at the end of the first-half, but we grew back into it and took our chances the second time round.

“I don’t think anyone dropped their heads. Just the way we’re playing at the moment, we’re playing well and we’re creating chances, even though we were 2-0 down, I don’t think we deserved to be in that position, so it was never a case of it being game over for us.

“With the way we’re playing at the moment, and it’s a great group of lads, which is why we’re putting in performances like that in the second-half.”

On getting the crucial comeback goal

“There was a lot of space on the edge of the box from the corners, so Hugo [Bueno] gave me the ball and I had a lot of space on the edge of the box, saw the keeper was a little bit towards his right and there was a big gap at the near post, and thankfully I hit it.

“It’s not bad. I’ll take it and I’m happy with that. It’s an important goal and got us the first to get us back in the game, but we could have scored four or five today because we had better chances than that, so it’s just a good performance in the end.”

On getting minutes after injury

“It’s been really frustrating [with the injury]. It’s been a long time since I joined the club for me to finally gain some minutes, but I got on well with everyone here as soon as I came. I really felt part of the team, even though I wasn’t out on the pitch when I first arrived. But It’s been easy and it’s felt like I’ve been playing with them for ages, despite the amount of time I’ve been here.

“The way we’ve been playing at the moment, it’s been easy to come in. Everyone’s at the top of their game, we’re in a great run of form, and it’s just been the case of being patient. I’ve been here a long time now without having played, but it’s made it so easy for me to come into the team just because of the way we’ve been playing.”

On 90 minutes under his belt

“It’s the first time I’ve done it in 15 months, so it’s been a long time coming. I’ve been pushing for that the past couple of months when I’ve been feeling good and feeling sharp, and for it to finally happen tonight, it’s been about time.”

On facing cup and league play-off semi-finals

“It’s exciting. There’s lots of good games coming up, games here at Molineux, and these are games you want to be playing in, so it’s great timing. I’ve had to wait my time, but now I’m here, it’s a great time to be involved and hopefully pushing to win the cup and get promoted.”
