Bueno | 'I’ve been looking for those goals for the whole season'

Hugo Bueno was happy to put his goalscoring frustrations behind him as he quickly followed up his opening goal of the season with a second to help Wolves under-23s to victory over Newcastle United at Molineux.

The wing-back has been a crucial figure in the development side’s outstanding second half of the campaign having returned from an injury he picked up playing for Bruno Lage’s first-team in pre-season, but he had not found the luck he needed in front of goal.

However, that all changed on Monday night as the Spaniard struck twice in a 4-2 win which put the under-23s a step closer to securing home advantage in the Premier League 2 Division 2 play-offs.

On eight wins from nine in the league

“It’s amazing, but we want more. We’re really happy for the three points and this group of players have been working really hard, so I’m really happy for the win.

“It was a big win tonight, but we have to keep going and try to be unbeaten for the rest of the season and I hope we’re still like this when the season ends.”

On finally finding the back of the net

“I’ve been looking for those goals for the whole season. I was unlucky loads of times, but it’s not about the goals, it’s always about the result, so I’m just really happy about the three points.

“It’s been a frustration to not score, a complete frustration, to be honest, but you have to keep working and working and the results would come.

“That’s why I’m so happy that tonight I got those two goals to help the team get the win.”

On getting back to his best after pre-season injury

“I just tried to work hard every day. Every day after training, I always try to do extras and my own things, so that’s the key – work hard every day and try to give my best in every game.

“That injury was a bad time for me, but I’ve been able to come back stronger. I’ve been working really hard, but honestly, I don’t think I’m at the level I want to be.

“I just want to work even harder and try my best in the next games, and obviously score more goals and get more assists.”

On the performances of the team

“The team has been excellent, to be honest. We’ve been training really good, really hard and we’ve been playing amazing – winning, winning and winning. That’s what it’s all about – winning.

“We are all very confident. We’re all very nice to each other and I think that’s one of the most important things as well, the connection between us.

“I’m really happy for this team to get this win, and I hope we can stay like this – winning, so we’ll just keep going.”
