Sa | 'Every point is important for our journey'

Jose Sa believes Wolves taking a point from Wrexham will be all important in their Championship season, as the team continues their fight for promotion back to the Premier League.

After the hosts overcame Middlesbrough in midweek, Sa knew Wolves were facing a tough team, but despite dominating in possession and chances created, the Old Gold were forced to settle for the draw.

But although the goalkeeper feels there is still plenty of improvement to be made by the team, taking a six-game unbeaten run into the international break has given the players plenty of confidence to attack the next phase of their campaign.

On taking a point from Wrexham

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game because Wrexham have a good team. They won their last game against a team fighting for promotion, so we knew it would be a tough challenge.

“As we expected, it was, but I think the team responded well and played well. In the end, we take one point. One point is one point, but every point is important for our journey.

“It’s very good for us to continue this run of six games without losing, because for what we want to achieve, it’s very important.”

On conceding shortly after taking the lead

“It’s always disappointing when we concede a goal, and we have to improve. Next time, we need to be stronger in those moments and more compact as a team and it’s something we will work on.

But we knew Wrexham were that type of team and that they would put a lot of crosses into the box, so we were expecting it.

“The goal came from a very good cross, which is something we knew they could do.”

On turning chances into goals

“We had more possession, more shots and more chances, but normally, we have more possession and shots than our opponents because we work a lot on keeping the ball.

“We are having a great season, but we just need to continue and be more effective in the final third and at the back because we don’t concede many goals.”

On adapting to the Championship

“I would say the Championship is more direct. In terms of physicality, the Premier League was also very physical, but there is a more direct style of football in this league.

“We are fighting to return to the Premier League, which is what we want, and we will continue working towards that.”

On heading into the international break six unbeaten

“Of course, going six games without losing is very important. Every time we pick up points and don’t lose, it’s positive.

“This was an away game, so now we need to continue that form after the international break because we have our next game at Molineux, where we have to win.

“We know the supporters will get behind us and push us on, and that’s what we are expecting. We want to win.”
