Adam Armstrong feels Wolves deserved to win by a much bigger scoreline than they did in their 1-0 Championship victory over Watford on Saturday afternoon.
The striker’s first-half effort proved to be the difference between at Molineux, but having dominated the opening stages of the game, Armstrong was left feeling Wolves could, and possibly, should have put the Hornets to the sword.
However, with three points, a clean and a week to recover and prepare for the visit of Cardiff City next weekend, Armstrong hopes the win will give Cesar Peixoto’s a boost as they continue to look up the Championship standings.
On winning against Watford
“In the first half, I think we were probably at our best for the season. We were really front-footed and didn’t give them a chance. The disappointing thing is that we should probably have been two or three goals up at half-time, but that’s football.
“However, we got a clean sheet as well, which was really needed after Tuesday's game, so it’s nice to be back in the winning habit.
“Credit to the lads for how good we were in the first half, but to see the game out as well is massive in this league. It’s always tough, and you’re always going to give the opposition chances, but the way we stuck at it and got the clean sheet, and the three points, was unbelievable.”

On adding three more points to the tally
“It’s a massive result. We were quite sloppy on Tuesday [against Portsmouth], and we knew that. We said after Tuesday’s game that we hadn’t started anywhere near well enough. I think that’s been a bit of a problem this season, but we’ve all been trying to improve that.
“We worked hard this week to put things right, and I think we showed that in the first half. We could have been three or four goals up, so it’s great to bounce back. But I know the Championship well, and it’s always going to be a difficult league. The important thing is making sure you get those three points.
“When you’re playing well and losing, it happens sometimes, but when you’re not playing as well and you win, you have to take the positives. I’ve seen it so many times where you’re playing well but things aren’t going your way. Today, though, everyone stuck together, and that’s the main thing – getting those three points.”
On his first goal since August
“It’s nice to get the goal. I’ve seen it drop off the post, and it was a bit of instinct, just to put it back across goal. Thankfully, it ended up in the back of the net.
“I think that gives you confidence in games. As a striker, when you start so well, you know there’s going to be a chance that falls to you. If you’re not in the right place at the right time, you don’t get those goals. Luckily enough, I was in the right place and managed to put it in the back of the net.
“It’s been a while, but I’ve had a bit of a run of shooting opportunities over the last few weeks, and it’s nice to settle down now I’ve got a goal, and hopefully, it’s the first of many.”

On coming back from injury
“I’ve had a bit of a back problem over the last few weeks, and it hadn’t settled down as quickly as I’d hoped. But I’m back out there now and it feels excellent. I felt really good.”
On having a week to prepare for Cardiff
“The games come thick and fast, but when you’re playing week to week, it gives you time to recover, get the training in and prepare for the next game. It’s nice to have a couple of days off our feet, and then we’ll go again.
“We feel like we haven’t been at our best over the last few weeks, but look where we are in the table. It’s crazy. You’d think, with the way some of the results have gone, that we’d be bottom of the league.
“But the mindset we have is that we want to be the best we can be, and hopefully today is the start of us kicking on and putting together a good run.
“It’s massive to get back to winning ways at home. We have to make this place a fortress and whenever teams come here, they need to know what they’re up against, but if we put in performances like that first half in every game, we’ll have no problems.”
