Peixoto | 'An option to help us fight for the Premier League'

Cesar Peixoto says Bertrand Traore boasts the perfect characteristics he wanted in a winger and is convinced he’ll be a huge asset this season.

The head coach made clear his desire to sign a left footed right winger this summer, and in the former Aston Villa and Sunderland attacker, he believes he has his man.

Five matches into the Championship season, Wolves are fully aware of the challenge ahead of them, and Peixoto placed significance on having two players per position, which in the wide positions holds even more importance, he believes.

On adding Traore to his squad

“It’s important for us. It’s a position we wanted, a winger who is strong one versus one and fast. A left foot is important for me, to play on the right, to go inside with the ball and assist or manage the game. He’s an experienced guy who knows English football.

“He’s a good player to improve the team, one more option. He needs time to get fit because he’s been working alone, and he needs time to know our idea of the game, but another option to help us fight to get to the Premier League.”

On options for a busy schedule

“Like we saw on Sunday, the Championship is very tough. We need two players in each position, with quality to manage the game from the starting eleven or the bench. We know injuries can happen, I hope not, but like we have now with Yerson, JJ Bellegarde, Rafiki and Trippier, so it’s important we have options to manage the games.”

On the attributes Traore brings

“He has the right characteristics I want in this position – one versus one, strength, a left foot to score or assist, he’s fast to attack the space. We need more options with different characteristics, Rodrigo with the right foot, Bertrand with the left.

“With the way we play, sometimes we attract the opposition inside and then need to find the winger outside in a one versus one situation to score or create an assist.

“On the left we have Mane and Rafiki, and Adam can play there too. It’s a position we’re going to change a lot during the season, during the games, from the starting eleven or bench. There’s a lot of running, so it’s important for us to have this kind of option.”
