Tommy Doyle is enjoying being back in a Wolves shirt and is hoping his opportunities to impress continue, after operating in a more advanced role for 73 minutes against Real Sociedad on Saturday.
Forming a three-man midfield with Andre and Marshall Munetsi, Doyle was lively against the La Liga side, during his third game back at the club, following a loan spell at Birmingham City last season.
Having won promotion from the Championship previously with Sheffield United, Doyle feels he has plenty to offer at Molineux and is enjoying absorbing all he can from his new manager during the summer.
On enjoying his chance back
“Every manager's different, so it's just about him putting his ideas across and you've got to be like a sponge, and really soak everything up, and sometimes there's a lot of information. We will get things wrong, which is normal, but in the majority we played really well. We were aggressive on the front foot, when we had to suffer, we suffered, but we suffered together, and we did some great things on the ball. So, hopefully we just keep getting more fluid, and putting more balls in the back of the net.
“We all want to do that as a footballer, play minutes and be a main player in the team. Hopefully I'm allowed to do that this season. I’ve just got to keep working every day on the training pitch, keep proving to the manager that we're ready to go. I have a lot of experience in this league and I believe that will help a lot, so hopefully I can help as much as possible.”

On a step up in pre-season on Saturday
“It was enjoyable. Obviously, you want to win every football match you're playing in, whether it's the season or pre-season, so there's obviously a little bit of frustration that we couldn't win. Personally, it was nice to be back in front of the fans again because it's been a while. It was nice playing with my teammates again, but the most important thing is getting minutes in the boys and practising what the manager wants, and putting his ideas forward. We'll get things right, we'll make mistakes, but that's part of pre-season and we're learning.
“They're a good team. Sometimes you have to suffer not having the ball a little bit, but that's part and parcel of it. We'll have that in the Championship this season. There will be times when we don't have the ball, so we have to learn spaces to close, being compact, staying together, and then when we get the opportunities to press, being nice and aggressive, which, to be fair, in the majority of that, I thought we were today. You could see there was a lot of good things from the game. There'll be a lot of times where we have the ball, so it's about being brave, getting on it, playing with each other, and trying to score goals and create as much as possible.”
On playing further forward
“Out of possession it’s more 4-4-2, so I'm a lot higher. It allows me to use my engine, and then 4-5-1 in possession, which is perfect. I grew up playing in that position, the position I played today is what I'm used to. It allows you to get up and down the pitch, and be aggressive with and without the ball, which is nice. We all want to try and be a complete player, so I think the system allows me to try and push for that.
“I think we [Andre and Munetsi] all complement each other really well. As long as we're all aggressive, which we are, we're putting in tackles, and we're there for each other, and, we can all play with the ball, so hopefully we can keep doing that throughout the season, whoever's in there, and hopefully we can win those games.”

On playing for the fans
“It was really nice – it's been a while. I like to think I have a good relationship with the Wolves fans. They were always supporting me, even last season when I wasn't here, so it was really nice to be back out there in front of them, and we’re waiting for the games at Molineux, which should be really good.”
