Kieran Trippier is chomping at the bit for the new season, with pre-season friendlies now underway for the Old Gold.
The summer signing has now been training with the group for two-and-a-half weeks, with one of them coming in Portugal, and on Wednesday night he’ll play in front of Old Gold supporters for the first time at Maidenhead United.
It’s the first of four public friendlies under Cesar Peixoto, who the experienced Trippier is absorbing information from on a daily basis, and the full-back can feel excitement for the big kick off already in the Wolves dressing room.
On excitement for the season
“I'm really excited and I'm delighted to be here. I want to be successful, even at the age that I'm at now, and help the club get out the Championship to the Premier League. We’ve got to take it a game at a time, it's going to be a demanding season. I played in the Championship many times in my career, so I know what to expect. So, I'm here to help on and off the pitch.”
On becoming a leader in the group
“That's what I am as a player. With my experiences and age that I'm at now, I demand a lot from myself and certainly my teammates, because this season is going to be a tough season. On the training pitch, I'm demanding. I help players and I'm always using my voice, so hopefully that can help the players, especially the younger players at the club.
“It's always good to get different ideas from different managers. He seems like a really demanding manager, which I love as a player, and we’re getting his instructions and what he expects from me and other players in the team, the way he wants to set up. He wants to press high, he wants to play total football, which is always good for a club.”
On pre-season so far
“It's been good. It's important when you go away on pre-season to get to know your teammates and the staff that have just come in. It's been a tough pre-season, but it's been good for me, personally, as a new player to come in. It helps that I knew a few of the players before I arrived and the lads are great. It's been a great environment to be involved in.
“The standard's been really good, really high, and the manager demands that. There might be still players coming in, but we can only deal with what we've got now. I've really enjoyed the sessions. Good quality, good high tempo, that's what the manager expects.”

On tough training sessions
“The manager is very demanding, and he wants all the players to be committed. It's been up there as one of my hardest pre-seasons to date, but it's good to get an understanding of how the manager wants to play and different tactics. He seems a very good manager, very disciplined, so I'm looking forward to working with him this season.
“This is why you come in the heat, to get you ready for a demanding season, which it will be this season in the Championship. The lads have dealt with it very, very well. The manager was very demanding on fitness. I've had plenty of managers throughout my career who demand that, to be ready for another challenging season.”
On the squad he’s arrived at
“I've spoken to some players who played with players here, and it helps that I knew players before I signed. It's always good to go away on pre-season all together with each other every day, and getting that connection with the players, which I certainly have since I've been here. They’ve made me feel so welcome, so it's been really good, and I'm looking forward to putting on the shirt and playing with my teammates.”
