Adam Armstrong was delighted to open his Wolves account as the team fought back from two goals down to take a point from their Premier League travels to Brentford.
The striker only arrived at Molineux last month but has already had a big impact in recent top flight wins without finding the net, but Armstrong scored a crucial goal just before half time on Monday night to kick start the Old Gold’s fightback.
Although it could have been even better for Wolves, with Armstrong also striking the post just after the break, the 29-year-old feels his side are in a much better state than their league position might show, and is looking forward to a positive end of the campaign when they return from a 24-day break.
On a game of two halves
“We had to change something [at half time]. I think the first half we started quite sloppy. The first two goals we conceded weren’t good enough on our behalf.
“I think the goal before the break gave us a little boost going into the second half. We had some words at halftime that we need to up it to try and get back into the game, put a bit more pressure on them, and that's exactly what we’ve done.
“We hit the post and the bar a couple of times, and it’ll give us a boost, so we have to take the positives. I think the last three games have shown that we can compete, and we have to keep that going.”
On scoring his first goal for Wolves
“I just saw the space and luckily my touch was quite nice to put it in front of us for a finish. When I saw it hit the back of the net it was delightful. I knew we could try and get back into the game.
“[His second chance which hit the post] fell quite late and I didn’t know whether he [Tchatchoua] was shooting or crossing, but to get in that position, you have to be there as a striker. Another day, I suppose it goes in, but unluckily for me, it went the other way.”
On remaining positive
“We just keep taking the positives from the early start of the game, whether we’re playing well or playing bad. We always have to step onto teams, and I think we’ve done that the last three or four games since I’ve been here.
“You see it in the second half of games. You see the lads sticking together and the fans are right behind us. It gives us that extra push. The fans were brilliant again today in the corner, and you could hear them all game, especially in the second half, when we were pushing for another goal.
“And the second halves have always had late goals and a bit of drama, but I’m happy to get a point here. You know that Brentford are such a good team, they’re doing really well this year and we have to take the point.”

On Wolves being better than their position suggests
“That’s what I felt as soon as I came in. The quality that we have, you see it every day in training and for myself, I couldn’t quite believe the position in the table.
“But since I’ve come in, the lads have been brilliant with us and it’s been positive. That’s all I can say for myself. The results have been good in the last few games, and we have to just keep on taking the positives going forward and see where it gets us.”
On fighting until the end
“We have to. We’re all professional footballers and we always have to believe and give our all every game. As cliche as it is, we always say take each game as it comes and that’s exactly what we’re doing.
“The last few results have been unbelievable and we have to just keep on working hard every day in training to get the best out of each other and see where that takes us.”
