Buenos confident of Wolves causing Man City upset

Santi and Hugo Bueno believe the momentum Wolves have built up over the last few months mean they head to face Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend full of confidence.

The defenders have both played important roles under Rob Edwards as the team has showed vast improvements under the head coach, and visit to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday off the back of a five-game unbeaten run.

With confidence and optimism returning to the team and the supporters, the Buenos feel that, despite Man City being in the midst of a title battle, the Old Gold can produce another memorable result this weekend.

On optimism returning to Wolves

HB: “There is definitely a different feeling around the club. I think we are doing things really well, not just from now but since the manager first came.

“The results are there and we are happy about it, but we know we have to do a lot more to try to keep our challenge there – that is stay in the Premier League.

“Hopefully we can get the wins and who knows what’s going to happen.”

On what has changed in recent weeks

HB: “I don’t think it was just one moment which has done this, I think there’s been a lot of them. You cannot change with just one, especially in the situation we’ve been in.

“It’s been down to a lot of hard work. It’s not been easy. The easy thing to do is just to let ourselves down, but we are not doing that.

“We are working every day to be better, so we have a lot of those moments where we’re believing and know that we can do better and better.”

On facing Man City this weekend

SB: “All Premier League matches are very difficult. There is obviously a special value to playing against Manchester City, especially at their ground, but we are coming off a run of very good matches where the team is showing more confidence, getting good results and keeping clean sheets.

“I think that is the path to achieving good results, and I believe we arrive at a good moment to face one of the best teams in the world.”

On dealing with Erling Haaland

SB: “Strikers of that world class level, like Haaland, always go through moments like this, and they have a strength that allows them to come through it.

“You shouldn’t write him off, because in the next match he could score a hat-trick. You must not underestimate him.

“You have to keep working, work on his movements and performances, but also have confidence and trust in our work, which is what has given us good results in recent matches.”

On fighting until the end

HB: “That’s what we want to show them [the fans]. We’re going to be believing until the very last day of the season. That’s our mentality.

“We want to win as many games as we can, and this weekend we want to go to Man City and win the game and then next week we can hopefully get another win at home.

“We know it’s not easy at the Etihad, but we did it a couple of years ago, so we know we can do it again.”
