Rob Edwards was full of praise for Jorgen Strand Larsen after the striker bagged his first hat-trick in gold and black to secure Wolves passage into the FA Cup fourth round at the expense of Shrewsbury Town.
The Norwegian scored the first of Wolves’ six goals against the Shrews inside the opening 10 minutes before rounding off his display by netting his first Old Gold trio inside the hour mark.
With Jhon Arias, Tolu Arokodare and Rodrigo Gomes all finding the net in a positive afternoon for Wolves, Edwards is hoping the result will continue the momentum his side have built up during an unbeaten start to 2026.
On progressing in the FA Cup
“It was more than satisfactory; it was a really good day for us. A good performance, very professional, more progression seen and lots and lots of positives. It was an enjoyable day all round.
“We kept that momentum going like I wanted and I thought was a really good performance. We were clinical when we needed to be, although I still think we could have got a bit more as we left one or two out there, but there was an amazing save, and maybe one or two other big chances, but I thought we were clinical.
“I thought we had a good mix because what we asked for today was patience, but then a purpose with our play. Not just to have 20 passes and then go back, or 20 passes, lose it, and they counter attack. I thought we had a good mixture of patience, purpose and a threat, so that was pleasing, and we were able to keep building on what we’re doing at the moment, which was really good.”
On pushing to score six
“It's difficult to get that at times, even if you’re in a team that’s maybe at the top of the League, because people can then start taking it easy and switch off a little bit, and go a little bit sloppy, but they didn’t allow themselves to do that.
“The lads that came on, came on with a good attitude, and we kept a really high level throughout the game. You can see that because we scored with almost the last kick as well, which was good and showed that we kept pushing.”

On picking a strong team
“I wanted to win the game. It’s as simple as that. Because the performances have been good the last couple of months, we’re not in a position to do that. It’s been a tough period, with a lot of games, but because we’re not in Europe or anything like that, we’re not playing loads and loads of games.
“I think we needed to freshen up one or two, I wanted to change around half the team, but the team that we played was very, very strong. We always wanted to respect the game, respect the competition, respect the opponents, and keep this momentum.”
On Strand Larsen’s hat-trick
“It was amazing for him. I’m really pleased. He’s been working so hard and it’s been a difficult time for him, personally as well, but we all go through this. We all have to take criticism when we’re in this job and in this industry, but it’s about how you can come back from that, and he’s been really good.
“He is a top quality player. I know goalscorers are judged by their goals, and number nines are judged by their goals, but he really has been. We see him every day, and that’s why we pick what we pick, and we make the decisions we do. He’s been really good for us.
“Around the training ground, with the messages that he’s saying, he’s been a big part of why we’ve been able to start turning this around. He’s showing the right things, and he’s a great guy. He works very, very hard, so it’s nice today that he’s been rewarded with the goals, nice that he got a really good reception when he was coming off, which is another thing that’s really pleased me today.”

On rebuilding a relationship with the fans
“We’re trying to. But that can take some time because it’s been a difficult period for them. I understand. But hopefully what they’re seeing is someone in me who really does care. I do mean that.
“I’ve said this before, but I left a really good job to come here because it has been my dream to be here and be the head coach of this football club, so myself and the staff are really passionate about this.
“You can see the lads are too. They’ve had a tough time, and things probably snowballed a little bit, but I think we’re beginning to turn things around and build some momentum. You can see improvement, and that progress and improvement is all we can do.”
On reaching the fourth round
“We’d love a good cup run. There’s nothing I would love more than that. It’s exciting that we’re in the hat again and whoever we get next, we’ll try and win the game.”
