Internationals | Wolfe and Lopez claim assists

Eight Wolves players were in action during the latest round of September international fixtures, with summer signings David Moller Wolfe and Fer Lopez getting assists in wins for their countries.

Wolfe set up a goal for Erling Haaland during Norway’s 11-1 win against Moldova, while Fer Lopez assisted an early goal for Spain under-21s in their 3-1 win against Kosovo.

Elsewhere, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Jackson Tchatchoua, Tawanda Chirewa and Marshall Munetsi played full games for their countries, and there were further appearances off the bench for Tolu Arokodare and Jhon Arias.

David Moller Wolfe | Norway 11-1 Moldova

Wolfe played the full 90 minutes and got an assist as Norway thrashed Moldova 11-1 to maintain their 100 per cent group stage record and win their fifth successive game as they look to qualify for the World Cup. The Wolves wing-back set up Haaland for Norway’s sixth goal of the game with a lovely, chipped cross which the Manchester City forward headed home for his fourth goal of the game.

Fer Lopez | Kosovo U21s 1-3 Spain U21s

Lopez helped Spain under-21s beat Kosovo under-21s 3-1 in their Euro U21 qualification group stage game. Wolves’ young Spaniard helped his side open the scoring by setting up Joel Roca early on. Kosovo would level shortly after the 20-minute mark, but an Iker Bravo goal with 20 minutes to play and a stoppage time goal by Adrian Nino secured a win for Spain, who have won both of their group games so far.

Tawanda Chirewa and Marshall Munetsi | Zimbabwe 0-1 Rwanda

Wolves’ Zimbabwean duo both played full games for their nation on Tuesday but were unable to prevent a defeat to Rwanda. Munetsi returned from suspension, while Chirewa added another cap to his name, but a second 1-0 defeat in September has left Zimbabwe bottom of their World Cup qualifying group, with just four points from eight games.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde | Costa Rica 3-3 Haiti

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde got his second cap for Haiti in a thrilling six-goal draw with Costa Rica. Despite going 2-0 down in the first half, after the break Haiti turned the game around with the introduction of Duckens Nazon having an immediate effect, as the substitute bagged a hat-trick to put Haiti ahead. When Nazon had netted his third in the 86th minute of the game it looked like Haiti were set for a comeback victory, but a late equaliser by Juan Pablo Vargas gave Costa Rica a point. The draw leaves both sides with two points from two games in their World Cup qualifying groups.

Jackson Tchatchoua | Cape Verde 1-0 Cameroon

Tchatchoua managed 90 minutes for his country in their 1-0 defeat against Cape Verde. The only goal of the game came in the 54th minute, when Dailon Rocha Livramento found the net. Despite the loss, Cameroon are still well placed to qualify for the World Cup, sitting second in their group on 15 points. They are one point ahead of Libya in third, and four points behind Cape Verde who top the group.

Tolu Arokodare | South Africa 1-1 Nigeria

Despite scoring the winning goal for Nigeria in their last outing, Arokodare was on the bench for Nigeria’s draw with South Africa. With the score 1-1 at the break, Arokodare was introduced to the action, but was unable to help Nigeria to a win. The draw against South Africa, who sit top of their World Cup qualifying group, means that Nigeria are third on 11 points from eight games, just three points behind Benin in second place.

Jhon Arias | Venezuela 3-6 Colombia

Arias came on for Colombia in the 77th minute in a game that yielded nine goals. Despite trailing twice to Venezuela in the opening 15 minutes, four goals by Luis Suarez meant Colombia established a three-goal lead. Salomon Rondon reduced that advantage to two goals on 76 minutes, but moments after Arias was brought on, the three-goal advantage was restored when Jhon Cordoba scored. Colombia are third in a World Cup qualifying group of 10, with 28 points from 18 games and have secured qualification.
