Munetsi | 'We’ve got to keep up that confidence'

Marshall Munetsi believes Wolves will bring the confidence they have gained with each passing game so far this season into Saturday’s clash with Everton as the side look to get off the mark in the Premier League.

Although the Old Gold have tasted defeat on their opening two league games of the campaign, an improved performance when down to 10-men in the second half of last weekend’s visit to Bournemouth was followed up with a midweek Carabao Cup victory over West Ham United, and the midfielder feels the momentum Wolves are building will stand them in good stead to earn their first top flight win of the year when Everton arrive at Molineux.

On aiming for a first Premier League win

“I can’t really say there was anything that went wrong [against Bournemouth]. I think on the day, we had a game plan, and obviously we tried to attack them in the first half of the game, and we also created the chance that I didn’t take in the first couple of minutes.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t also capitalise on that and they managed to score, but we knew that it’s a tough team to play against, especially when they’re playing at home.

“Overall, we did try to push, even when we went one man down, we kept on pushing to get a good result, but unfortunately, it was their day, and I think they were the better team on that day to win that game.”

On bringing momentum from midweek

“It’s all about confidence. Everton have confidence after winning two games in a row now, but I think it’s something that each and every team, when they win games, they get confidence.

“We’ve got to try and put a lot of pressure on them, because if we start very well, as you’ve seen in the last game at home, we did push a lot when we played West Ham in the cup game.

“We’ve got to keep up that confidence into the first minutes of the game, and then from there, we can try to manage the game.”

On improving with each game

“We also need to remember that we’re still in the beginning phase of the season, so I think there’s so many things that we still need to adjust and improve.

“But we’re going to keep working on them day by day.”

On aims for the season

“For me, it’s to do better than what I did last season. I want to help the team on the defensive side and also when we attack, so I want to try and assist when it comes to the goals.

“Obviously we lost Matheus Cunha who was contributing a lot, so I want to improve on my finishing in front of goal, and also to help us finish in a better position than what we did last season.

“We’ve got to try and be as solid as we can be, and be aggressive towards each and every game, while trying to win more games than we did last year.”
