Ladislav Krejci says his conversations with Vitor Pereira made a “big impact” and helped convince him that Wolves was the right next step for his career.
The 26-year-old has become the first Czech player in the club’s 148-year history and revealed conversations with the head coach last week spiked his interest, as did a desire to play in the Premier League for the first time.
Having completed his medical and met many of the staff, Krejci is now excited to get going, knowing he can add both leadership and versatility, and is determined to hit the ground running in his new surroundings.
On joining Wolves
“I’m very, very excited. Even the first day, it’s very exciting for me to see how to staff are working and everything around, the first view of the club. It's very beautiful, very amazing. So, I cannot wait for it.
“It’s been very crazy the last few days. Also, the travelling was busy. But I believe that it’s coming to an end, it will be calmer, and I will have more time to focus on my future club.”
On the conversations with Wolves
“The talks were last week. They made a big impact and were very interesting for me, because the coach said he was excited from last year, from last season. He showed me and told me some basics of what he wants from the team and from myself.
“The first things were very interesting, and I'm looking forward to meeting him as a person, to working with him and building myself as a professional. It's interesting that we met in pre-season. I didn't know anyone personally but it's good. Now, I cannot wait to meet them on the pitch as teammates.”

On the next step in his career
“It’s exciting, the biggest league in the world, a big achievement for myself, it’s a dream. So, I'm very glad for this opportunity from the club and from everyone who is involved in this and has put their faith in me, and I hope I will give it back.
“I hope all my past experiences from Sparta, from the Europa League, from the Champions League, from La Liga will help. I'm going step by step. I try to take a lot of information, a lot of things from the games, from the teammates, from the past. So, I believe I can use it, and I hope I will learn much more here.”
On being a leader
“I was [captain] in my past club. I was in very, very close contact with everyone, with the teammates, with the manager, with the fans, everything. To be honest, I don't think about it, because these things come naturally. So, I’ll concentrate on the other things at the moment.”
On bringing versatility to Wolves
“I’ve learned a lot, because as a young kid I grew up as a midfielder, and in the last three, four years I played as a centre back. I think I can use my skills from the youth, what I learned in midfield in the centre back position. In general, I like to play football, so find the better ways to develop myself.
“At Sparta, this system [back three] we played with our coach. Also, we qualified for the Champions League and won two titles with this system. As a centre back, I’ve learned this position, but I also have experience from the national team and from past clubs as a back four – it’s about strategy but also feeling the game. The staff set the principles, and I am happy to learn it and find new ways.”
On being the first Wolves players from Czech
“It's a big pride for me. The Premier League is the best league in the world. It's big achievement for me, as a guy from my country. We have some big, big players who’ve played in the past in this league, and it's a pleasure for me to be one of them. I hope, and I believe, that I will continue not just to be one who played here, but also who will show something. I'm excited for every game, for every challenge.”
