Krejci’s journey to Wolves

As Ladislav Krejci becomes the newest addition at Molineux, wolves.co.uk reflects on the career so far of Wolves’ first Czech star.

Having progressed into the senior side at Zbrojovka Brno at the age of 17, Krejci moved to Czech giants Sparta Prague where he spent the next five years and became the team’s captain. But after one year with Girona In La Liga, the defender heads to the Premier League to join Wolves on loan.

5th November 2020 | In his first year at Sparta Prague, Krejci – then a midfielder – turned out alongside his namesake, the former Bologna winger and 41-time Czech Republic international, Ladislav Krejci.

24th March 2021 | A prolific youth international in Czechia, Krejci was part of his country’s team which battled against former Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone’s Italy at the 2021 UEFA U21 Euros.

24th March 2022 | Krejci’s form with Sparta Prague saw him receive his first senior international call up, making his debut in centre midfield during a World Cup qualification play-off against Sweden.

12th October 2023 | On his first international start in a Euro 2024 qualifier, Krejci scored his first Czech Republic goal after just 27 seconds against Poland – his country’s fastest ever goal.

15th February 2024 | Throughout his time at Sparta, Krejci transitions from a midfielder into a ball-playing centre-back, while also taking on captaincy responsibilities for the club.

14th March 2024 | Krejci leads his side to the last 16 of the 2023/24 Europa League, which included impressive wins over Real Betis and Galatasaray, but their run comes to an end against Liverpool.

8th June 2024 | Now a regular in the Czech Republic defence, and with 10 caps and three goals to his name, Krejci is selected in his country’s squad for UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.

18th June 2024 | The first of three group games at Euro 2024 saw Krejci line up against Portugal, but it was the Iberian side which claimed a narrow 2-1 victory.

22nd June 2024 | Another start followed in game two of the Euros, with Krejci turning out on the right of a back three for Czech Republic in their draw with Georgia.

29th June 2024 | Krejci played every minute of action for his country at the Euros, but a final last second defeat to Turkey in game three meant their time at the competition would end in the group stages.

2nd October 2024 | During the summer of 2024, Krejci would move away from his home country for the first time after signing for La Liga side Girona. He left Prague after racking up 148 games and 44 goals.

1st December 2024 | After taking just a month to become a Girona regular, he added two goals in two games in December, with his second – against Villarreal – being awarded La Liga’s Goal of the Month.

7th December 2024 | During his time in Spain, Krejci was consistently pitting himself against some of the best attacking players in the world, while playing every minute he was available.

10th December 2024 | He also enjoyed a campaign of Champions League football last season, going up against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, AC Milan and Liverpool.

23rd February 2025 | While back in La Liga, Krejci and Girona were picking up the points with wins against Fabio Silva’s Las Palmas, as well as draws against Espanyol and Fer Lopez’s Celta Vigo.

25th May 2025 | The 2024/25 season ended in disappointment for Krejci, as a 4-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid meant Girona would finish in 16th place, narrowly avoiding relegation.

6th June 2025 | Krejci was back in the Czech side for their World Cup qualification matches this summer, helping his country to a 2-0 win at home to Montenegro as well as getting an assist versus Croatia.

15th August 2025 | Krejci said his goodbyes to the Girona fans ahead of making the move to Wolves earlier this month.
