Pre-season training | Week four round-up

A pair of friendly fixtures on home soil as well as a flight to Spain are included in Wolves’ week four pre-season round-up.

Following a return to Compton Park after their warm weather training camp out in Portugal, Vitor Pereira’s squad were hard at work at the training ground as they continue preparations for the start of the new Premier League season.

And wolves.co.uk has rounded up everything that has been happening during an eventful fourth week of pre-season.

Saturday 26th July

The latest week of pre-season begins in Stoke-on-Trent as Pereira’s side headed north up the M6 for a short journey to the Bet365 Stadium.

Pre-season fixtures with Stoke City have become a regular occurrence for the Old Gold in recent years, and that is where the first official friendly match of the summer took place, with the sides playing out a 1-1 draw.

Hee Chan Hwang ensured the trip to north Staffordshire ended all square, as the Old Gold stepped up their preparations for the new campaign.

The South Korean netted his first goal of the summer, converting the rebound after Potters stopper Viktor Johansson had parried his spot kick, after Wolves had fell behind just before the break through Bae Junho, although the visitors had chances of their own with Fer Lopez and Goncalo Guedes coming close.

Sunday 27th to Tuesday 29th July

The players were back into Compton on the Sunday morning to undertake a recovery session, as well as getting back to work later that afternoon on the training pitches.

Monday and Tuesday saw more of the same, with the players undertaking some double sessions to ensure they are in the best possible shape to kick start the season in the best way possible.

Despite another match to come on Wednesday evening, the intensity of the sessions didn’t let up on the Tuesday.

The squad worked on tactical set-up as well as the shape of how the team would be lining up against RC Lens 24 hours later.

Wednesday 30th July

The second matchday of the week, and Pereira had his players in for the afternoon as they gathered for some final preparation ahead of the friendly against Lens.

One player who will not be joining back up with the squad is Nelson Semedo, as the former captain confirmed his departure after five years in gold and black on Wednesday afternoon.

Over at Walsall’s Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium later that evening, a spate of second half goals saw Wolves fall to a friendly defeat to Lens.

The game burst into life after the break, with the visitors firing three goals past Dan Bentley in the Old Gold net, while Wolves’ consolation finish came from the boot of Goncalo Guedes, who finished off a neat individual move.

Thursday 31st July

Periera had his players in bright and early on Thursday after their match on the Wednesday evening, with a gentler session for the side after almost all of them played some part in the clash with Lens 12 hour earlier.

Later that afternoon, the players headed off to Birmingham Airport as they boarded a flight out to Catalonia where they would spend the next four days for a mini pre-season training camp.

Jhon Arias met up with his teammates down at Compton for the first time in the morning to undertake his first training session with the group before getting on the plane and jetting off to Spain.

Arriving at their Girona base, the players were given a bit of downtime following dinner where they spent an evening relaxing and getting to know their new Brazilian teammate.

Friday 1st August

A first morning on the training pitches out in Girona saw the players put through their paces in the Spanish sun.

Although for one member of Pereira’s squad it felt more like being back home in Brazil as Pedro Lima revealed on the latest episode of Wolves Express as he gave his first ever interview in English.

After a warm welcome from familiar faces Yerson Mosquera and Andre, and an evening of getting to know his new teammates, Arias took part in his second session earlier on Friday.

The Colombian international was immediately given the traditional Wolves welcome of running the customary tunnel of “friendly” teammate pats - by the look on his face, he really enjoyed it!
