Guedes | 'I feel very good in the group'

Goncalo Guedes says it’s very important for him to complete a full pre-season schedule and he is feeling good within the Wolves camp this summer.

The Portuguese is back in his home nation on pre-season with the Old Gold, and is on the back of a full season back with the club, where he scored five times and assisted on a further five occasions.

Unlike last season, the attacker has been involved in pre-season from the start under Vitor Pereira, featuring in Tuesday’s training ground match against Santa Clara, and says getting the group away to work hard and bond off the pitch is crucial for team spirit.

On pre-season so far

“I feel very well. Pre-season in my country, with this sun, I think it is very good. I'm feeling very good, it's my home, it's my country, I am all the time happy in Portugal. With this sun, it's very hot, it's difficult. The training is hard, but the intensity is good. It's very important for this part of the season.

“All the time I feel very good in the group. I think I do very well with my teammates, with the coach, with the staff. All the people are very nice and this is the most important. Last season, I came after 10 days or 15 days. But now I’ve done everything, all the pre-season, and I think it's very important for me.”

On the team spirit at Wolves

“I think it's a good idea when you change to another country for training. The training is hard because the pre-season is hard. It’s important to be in one place, all the team together, I think it’s good for the team, because all the team sleeps in the hotel all the time, joking at the table, I think it’s very important for the team.

“I think the team spirit is unbelievable. The team is young. We all joke, but when we do the work, all the time we’re focused, and this is the most important.

“It is a little difficult to sing in front of everybody [initiation songs], but it's only for the introduction to the group, and puts all the new people in the best condition, in the best way.”

On playing training games

“It's different. Of course, the coach split all the team for 35 minutes. I think it's important to get minutes for all the players, and all the players need to show to the coach their best level.”

On looking ahead positively

“I'm after two difficult years, because I had two surgeries to my knee, and now after the last season, I think I feel very well, very confident. I think this season will be a good season for me.

“The most important is the team starts with a good level and wins the most possible points in the first games.”
