Dawson | 'It’s important to pick up as many points as we can at home'

With successive games at Molineux coming up, beginning with Chelsea this weekend, Craig Dawson has stressed the importance of Wolves picking up as many points as possible at home.

The defender and his teammates prepared for the visit of the managerless Blues with a special Easter open training session on Tuesday morning where thousands of young fans enjoyed a fun filled morning at the stadium. And Dawson feels the fans will play a big role in helping Wolves come out on top of a tight relegation battle, which looks to be going down to the wire.

On Easter open training at Molineux

“It’s been a good day and the fans have turned out in their numbers. It’s great to see so many happy young faces here and I think they really enjoyed the session as well.

“The fans have been great and we’re really going to need them in these closing games, so it’s been really good for us to spend some time with them like we have today.”

On facing Chelsea

“It’s an important game at home and we’ve had some great results at home this season against bigger teams, so it’s important for us to continue that.

“Chelsea are a great side with great stars and lots of quality, so it’s going to be a tough game but one we’re looking forward to.

“It’s important for us to pick up as many points as we can at home, but it’s going to be a tough game, we know that. Whoever they play, Chelsea have got top quality players.”

On the pressure of a tight relegation battle

“It’s super tight and it’s going to be a tough challenge for all the teams, but that is what the Premier League is about. Every game is tough, we know that, and there are so many teams involved now.

“It’s additional pressure because you know the games are counting down and you’ve got to pick up the points.

“It’s obviously tough, emotions are high, especially at this time of the season when you need the points, but that’s why it’s so important that we stay focused on ourselves, keep calm and prepare well for every game, stay to our strengths and stick together as a team.”

On ignoring other results

“You try not to focus on other results and everyone says you don’t bother, but you always hear the news and it’s hard to get away from it now.

“I’ve got a football mad boy at home who is shouting the scores out when the games are on, so it’s difficult to get away from it.

“You see the scores, but it’s important to stay focused on yourself and look at the games you’ve got coming up where you can hopefully pick up points – sooner rather than later. If you pick up the points, it doesn’t matter about what anyone else has done.”
