Kilman | On Premier League's fine margins and taking confidence

Maximilian Kilman was left ruing the fine margins of Premier League football this weekend, having missed two opportunities to earn Wolves at least a point in their opening game of the campaign.

The defender was one of the stand-out performers at the King Power Stadium on Saturday as Wolves fell to a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City, and although the visitors had almost double the amount of shots compared to the Foxes, it took just one moment of Jamie Vardy breaching the defence to settle the game in Leicester’s favour.

But Kilman believes Wolves are still a work in progress as they settle to life under new head coach Bruno Lage, and will take a lot of confidence from their performance into this weekend’s return to Molineux as they face Tottenham Hotspur.

On narrow loss

“It was disappointing we didn't get anything from the game. We created a lot of chances especially in the second half, we really pushed.

“We did find the lines to play and showed our hunger and desire with a high press in the second-half. We had them on the back foot, I thought we dominated the second-half and we can gain a lot of confidence from that going into the next game.

“But that's just the reality of the Premier League and the fine margins it has. If we'd have taken our chances, it could have been a different outcome.

“Unfortunately, it didn't happen for us, but it’s something to build from.”

On Lage’s words at half-time

“To be brave and play with the confidence he knows we have and to believe in ourselves. To be fair we did show that, we just didn't put the chances in.

“I thought I did OK to get in there, but I should have scored. Every time I wear the shirt, I want to do my best.”

On playing on the right side of defence

“It’s something I’ve not been used to so much, but I have to adapt. There are obviously different ways where I need to find lines and my body position could have been different at times, but whoever plays in any position needs to adapt and make sure you do your best.

“It’s been tough, but we’ve had a long time in pre-season just to understand our roles and how to play. It’s good we’re all learning and whatever system we play we have to adapt.

“I thought we did that really well, especially in the second-half and we can see how we regain the ball higher up the pitch and were closer to their goal to score chances, but unfortunately we couldn’t put it into the back of the net.”

On back-to-back home games

“Every game is tough in the Premier League, regardless of who we play, it’s going to be a hard battle. We have to take the positives from today and into the next one.”
