Wolves deserving of Europa League win, says Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo felt his Wolves side were deserving of their Europa League victory over Slovan Bratislava after Raul Jimenez struck in added time.

Despite Wolves extending their advantage over Slovan in the Group K table, which was made trickier after Ruben Neves’ penalty was saved during an outstanding performance by visiting keeper Dominik Greif, the head coach felt there was still plenty for his players to improve on if they wish to make it into the knockout stages of the competition.

On moving five points clear of Slovan

“You look at all the game and we controlled it really well, we played good in the first-half and in the second-half there were too many chances and allowed Slovan chances to create counter-attacks, it was beginning to come apart.

“But fortunately, I think we deserved this win because the boys worked hard and the support of the fans until the end – it was a good moment for everybody.

“I wanted a lot of things from the game, some of them happened and others not, but the way we work we try to regroup for the next one.”

On rotating penalty takers

“Today was Ruben’s turn, he didn’t make it, next time it’s going to be Raul, hopefully he will make it – this is the moment that we have to decide.

“We practice a lot in the training sessions, we have designated penalty takers, today it was Ruben, he was not happy because he didn’t kick well, he’s conscious of that and he must work hard.”

On injury to Kenan Bajric

“I’ve not spoken to him, not yet. But I’ve spoken with them [Slovan] and I hope it’s not serious. It’s a tough time when it’s a kick in the head, I think all the care should be taken when attending to a player.”

On taking a step closer to qualification

“Now we have to focus on Sunday, but it was a very good moment, being back to Molineux – the crowd were incredible, 30,000 fans supporting.

“A word to Slovan because they were a very good team and I wish them all the best.”
