Jota revelling in Jimenez partnership

Match-winner Diogo Jota was delighted that Wolves were able to claim victory over Watford in the Premier League but reiterated that the players were not focused on getting revenge over the Hornets.

Watford knocked Wolves out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage earlier this month, but the two sides are competing to finish in seventh spot in the league and a possible Europa League spot.

But the goalscorer insists that Wolves will continue their mantra of taking each game as it comes with just two more matches to play in the Premier League this season.

On overcoming Watford

“We competed hard in the FA Cup semi-final for a spot in the final, the game went for them in that day, but it wasn’t like a revenge today, it was just one more game.

“We are shoulder to shoulder to fight for the seventh place, so it’s a great result in their house.”

On his assist for Jimenez and his goal

“When I received the ball from Ruben I looked to the air and I saw Raul there alone, and I just tried to take my opponent out of the way and the cross went perfect and it was a good goal for us.

“Ruben made a great pass, but we know what he can do. Fortunately for us the goalkeeper tried to anticipate the cross but this time he couldn’t, and I was faced with and open net. All I needed was the perfect touch and the ball went in.”

On relationship with Jimenez

“I think we know each other very well now, at this moment of the season. We know what the other can do in the specific moments of the game and the team takes advantage of our good relationship, so we just want to keep on going.”

On the support of the Wolves fans

“Playing at home with our fans is always easier, but our fans are always with us, even away. So, fortunately for us we were able to get a great result here.

“I think for a team that have just come up just, it’s very important to have our fans in the good moments and in the bad moments, and they have been always there for us.

“We want to thank them and give them the highest position in the table that we can at the end of the season.”

On possibility of finishing seventh

“We know that Leicester has played a game less, so they could go eighth in the table, so we’re just going to wait and see what we can do in the end of the season.

“But it doesn’t matter, what matters is that we have been having a great season and nothing will change in these final two games.

“For a team that is in its first year in the Premier League, the results we’ve had have been excellent this season.”
